Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Staffing

We cannot seem to find reliable help. Any new hires seem to quit or start calling out from the get go. And now there aren't even many applications coming through. What is going on in everyone else's stores?

before i was just recently laid off, my store was in the same boat, and i imagine it’ll only get worse. even with layoffs the hours are still nothing, the keys make up 60-70% of alloted hours. you won’t find people willing to work for less then virtually anywhere else, for 20 hours give or take a week, with managers overworked and overstressed, at a company that no one predicts will be around for more then another couple years at best. my guess? this holiday season, between no inventory and no staff, will be the final death blow to BBB….but i’m sure the shareholders will still make out well enough

There is a good video about the current stores on you tube and it is both damning and understanding at the same time. The store filmed was within walking distance of a Target. The place was poorly stocked in cleaning supplies, and looked very bare bones in terms of selection even if fully stocked. Not telling you anything new, just a bit shocked myself. Tons of empty shelves and obvious to video guy that the top stock was empty space covered with blue fabric. For some reason, probably price and weight, my fave 73 buck marble toilet gerbage bin was still there. But the guy had his ear to the ground about staffing and had heard that hours were cut and this resulted in the store looking ragged and not recovered. Compared to 2020, it didn't look like there was much to recover. Vid was taped in August.

People do not want to jump on a sinking ship. Our rookies were ahead of their time back in 2018 . They learned quiet quitting back then. Spend 30 minutes on the john texting.

Same here. We pay $1 over minimum wage. The few applicants we get we would never hire.

No incentives: Entry pay generally lower. Zero opportunities for growth or advancement.
