I'm exhausted. The boss is not interested in how much overtime it requires and how unrealistic it is to meet so many short deadlines, he expects the work to be completed. It is futile to try to explain that it is not realistic, that we do not have enough people. Terrible atmosphere and it's never been more tense. What to do but run away from here?

If it’s so bad, why are you still at AIG, bitter and complaining about “more harder” but not leaving? Could it be because you can’t find another job?
Also the more people that walk, less severance to pay out and more cash for Pirate Pete and friends to plunder the coffers of the Company…
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Execs get bigger bonuses for each person that leaves voluntarily….
They want to make your life as difficult as possible so that you walk. The more people that walk, the better. Less to arrange to transfer across to another company.
Some better attitudes than mine on this thread, and kudos to you for trying to do your best in tough circumstances. The OP sounds like someone who works in technology. The poor organization, short term management mentality, bad morale, short staffing, and ineffective work done by our tech partners makes this place a purgatory from which one must escape.
Don’t stay here and burn yourself out.
I agree, some of the bosses are just making it more harder for employees that have been retained with all their sarcasm and microbullying. I just hope that there's a sense of humanity within the organization to keep the morale of the remaining employees. At the end of the day every single one is dispensable we can at least be good with each other and do the most we can to help.
I agree. Just say no. It is not like you are going to get any additional benefit anyway.
just don't do it. guarantee your boss will not fire you because that would just mean one less person that they cannot replace. i've learned from my boss that he projects power, but when challenged he folds like a blade of grass. push back and watch.
