Recent retiree, 80s hire. The 80s were great, 90s were good if you didn't get Imation-ed. 00s sucked under GE guy but he left before he could really destroy the culture. End of 00s good. Buckley was hands off. Much of 10s ok. Inge wasn't bad but seemed like some of the bad apples that maybe GE guy wanted into upper management found their way up. Mike has been a disaster. Morale is indeed awful and that was before this latest purge, which isn't over in the least from what I'm hearing.

I'm just glad I'm not mid career since the pension will be capped IMHO soon to save money. Throwing people into a richer 401k match sounds good but if you know anything about that, most companies either eliminate or reduce the match during "tough times" which this company is only starting to feel. The next 2 to 3 years will be critical. 3M will be around for years to come, just may have to go to Chapter 11 to get rid of this litigation cloud.

Meanwhile, if you haven't done so but can, get that lump sum pension, sell your shares, and hope for the best. Good luck to all.

I took my fat bonus for 2020 and left. It was too late for the management to change the metrics and had to pay it. Just like swing trading you gotta swing it!

i am a long time employee here. i do agree that morale is rock bottom now, with no recovery in sight. in the Plant, more and more people are resigning with no replacements approved. work gets redistributed to the remaining people in the plant. Sad to see this.

I’ve been with the company a long time. Taking a look at the macro, it’s been a good run. Personally, I feel well compensated, I’ve advanced in my career, I’ve received recognition, and 3M has been a great place to work for the bulk of that time. But business strategies have changed, priorities have been misaligned, the culture has eroded, and morale is now poor. Although it didn’t happen overnight, it’s surprising to me how quickly things have gone south. I’m hoping things can turn around, but I’m not holding my breath.

3m was always on the Fortune best places to work for the entire 1980s and 90s. That's a good thing.
