I left Gulfstream on my own in 2020 and now they have asked me to come back.
Has there been change in moral, raises or safety? Or is it still stock value above all else?

I was also recruited back after being laid off in May 2020. I am a whole new man though, so much more chill. I realized that working my a$$ off 65 hours a week including weekends at the expense of my family didn't save me from the pandemic axe. So I do my 40 hours now and sleep well at night. I'm sure in about 36 months they'll axe me again. At least I will probably deserve it when it happens next time.
Are we good this year or can we expect layoffs?
How many times has HR had to revamp?
Salvation has arrived. The new, improved and vastly more agile HR or should I say “People Team” organization is getting rolled out. What was the problem with HR?
It is interesting reading this thread. I worked at Gulfstream in the late 90s and thought it was a a sh-t show and fortunately have not had to go back. I woukd only consider it if I was unemployed and really needed a job but fortunately haven’t had to.
In the late 90s they lived on hiring people from Boeing or Lockheed to avoid having to train so many experience people. Sounds like they just hire the inexperience people now instead. They were extremely limited on training before which is why they never wanted to hire people with no experience.
They also used to try to hire a lot of contract engineers, but that’s completely died due to the high health premiums and basically large companies like Boeing laying off their entire contract labor force.
I get emails from recruiters all the time trying to hire people for gulfstream. I don’t consider it, but out of curiosity wanted to check here looks like it hasn’t changed much. Still a sh-t show.
Definitely worse.
Left in 2020, back in 2022. Everything bad about 2020 is amplified. Most things good about 2020 are gone. Some folks are trying to do a good job but more are just showing up for a check. At least, they’re mostly showing up. If leadership micro-managed before, they’re nano-managing now. The highest levels are engaged in the most trivial of issues, so you can guess what’s being done to orchestrate and fine tune skillets, organizations, and culture….nothing. It’s clear they don’t trust their teams and I can’t say I blame them. There’s a high concentration of rookies here now. The absence of an evenly-distributed, experience bell-curve is scary.
I just don’t see any tenable, long-term plan here. Experienced people can’t wait to retire. And the inexperienced either just want to leave or can’t wait to be the president. Not good, not balanced, try to move on elsewhere.
I think if you came back, you’d walk in and it would be like nothing at all has changed. Issues we were dealing with in 2020 we are still dealing with now, but minus a lot of staff that actually know how to work those issues. Some like you left on their own. Many really good people were let go after you left in the 2 most recent layoffs. Funny thing is, I don’t see how GAC saved any money with those layoffs. They sent expensive severance packages out the door, then immediately began a hiring frenzy with all kinds of high priced bonuses and incentives. At least some of the new hires that frenzy yielded have zero background or experience in aerospace. They are not anywhere near as expert or productive as the people they replaced. Don’t get me wrong, they are good people, just in over their heads. Upshot – come back. We probably really need you. You can probably ask for anything you want, and you’ll get it.
I was RIFed in the pandemic blood letting and was recruited back about a year ago. It was a hard decision to go back even though they matched the higher salary at my new job. But family reasons made it a good idea to go back for the time being.
Since coming back I do see positive changes, but we are still understaffed after letting so much highly skilled talent go. Some of the director and VP people who made poor choices releasing people that we actually couldn’t afford to do without are gone, which is great.
I’m cautiously hopeful for the future, but I’ve seen too much in my years to feel really confident in my career here. I just don’t trust HR won’t make a knee jerk cut again. I’ll never bring any personal photos or stuff to my office. Nothing sucked more than waiting 6 weeks to get my kids photographs handed to me in a box last time I was let go.
One thing that has changed is they have it to where ABM is knocking on the restroooms every 10 mins so you can’t even take a sh-t in peace. They have everything on lock down here to keep you slaving away. Also every meeting is about how we can do better and lots of nagging. Oh and nothing but kids and woke hires are here with no experience or drive and are not pushed to produce
“They hit rock bottom months ago then kept digging”
Hilarious whoever wrote that!
It’s the same place it’s always been honestly
They want you back because they need someone to clean the forward and Aft lav shitters
Come back but ask for a lot of money. They will pay.
When an aerospace company is run by woke HR reps then you’re in trouble.
If you’re trying to get industry experience then I’d consider working there. If you already have the experience then I would definitely look elsewhere for employment. Good luck
Several VERY good/senior people have voluntarily resigned and left - several without having another job because of the dumpster fire. This is NOT a place you will want to stay long term - regardless of pay. Be VERY diligent and ask a lot of questions before you agree to go back. The biggest being culture!
We got a paid family leave policy refers to mothers as "birthing persons".
increase in wokeness; increase in brand paranoia; increase in leadership hubris; increase in hiring of adolescents masquerading as adults; increase in quiet quitting.

There is no question that Gulfstream is a great place to get a vast amount of professional experience. But take care before you make your final decision to go back. How many people that you know left in 2020 (voluntarily or involuntarily) that have not returned? I’ve heard from those that have returned they find it much worse than before. There are a few who feel like it is the same, but I’ve not heard anyone say it is better. What I’m talking about is the culture-which is very important! We have HR to thank for destroying that.
I suppose as with any type of question you will get a variety of responses. It is becoming abundantly clear that if you keep the HR Czarina out of the business you will most likely have greater chance of success.
