A lot of speculation a merger is in the works. Would need to be a big player to be worth the trouble. Could a merger actually be a good thing?

If y’all think Exxon’s culture is bad, just keep wishing for a merger and blending it with Chevron’s LOL
I just want paid more
Unfortunately, the past few mergers, the Exxon culture prevailed.
Much effort goes into forcing the Exxon culture dominance.
Large merger not likely. Regulators would not approve and little incentive during high oil prices.
Buyout of small to medium oil company to increase reserves on the books more likely.
It wouldn’t be all of ExxonMobil and all of Chevron. The pieces would get cut apart, spun off, and repackaged. For example. Chevron has to spin off their portion of Chevron Phillips. Chevron Pasadena is closed or sold. Chevron Richmond HQ closes down. Exxon spins off all of Imperial into its own company. So you get a combined upstream organization, a downstream/midstream org that may or may not include EMCC. LCS goes with upstream org.
Read Private Empire. Like five people knew about the Exxon and Mobil merger before it was brought to the boards for the vote. Credible merger rumors can affect stock prices, and if you know anything about how M&A deals are structured that’s a big deal. There is absolutely zero chance anybody in the Houston area would hear even an inkling about a merger. A purchase? Maybe. But not a merger of the scale people are whispering about, not that I expect the SEC would even allow a large deal to go through anyways.
@ hwj+1iIMFys6 not true. Campus was a rumor, when I was fully aware of the “USRESS” acronym. Also I know someone who stopped and asked a construction worker along 45 what was going on and the person said “Exxon bought up a bunch of land here”.
Merger or acquisition would be a way to grow reserves as this seems impossible for EM outside of Guyana.
It is a rumor yes, and we gotta admit, it's juicy too.
The bottom line is that ExxonMobil seems to be shrinking. It's not a good idea to work on a shrinking business, better to go to a growth sector with more jobs, more opportunities, more technology, more interesting people.
GTFO ExxonMobil
@OP Wouldn’t make a difference.
I don’t really buy the rumors. It looks like the same people posting on both boards, and the rumor only started after someone put up a thread titled “juicy rumors”.
Check out Chevron forum. My my my.

In the past I would agree that no one would know. However, it seems like today there is a real inability to keep anything a secret.
Remember when the new campus was announced? Many rumors prior but many saying they were just rumors. Where there is smoke there is fire.
Know how I know a merger isn’t happening? Nobody outside of a few offices in Dallas would know about it.
