They are fixers, aide-de-camps with some technical background (yep, those guys consider themselves equivalents of military generals)

No it’s not. Look at all the former TAs. They are in bs roles with little no room for growth or advancement

TA is a fast track position to higher salary and stock without increased responsibility. Jealous I am.

TA stands for technical assistant. The question is though if a senior Vice President of the company on mega salary and benefits needs technical assistance to perform his tasks, then he if she should fxxking not be holding that position in the first place

TAs at GF are friends and families are SVPs . They are like the SVPs of GF rejects from other companies who can not find jobs elsewhere

A role for those promoted too fast in the first place and couldn't handle the roles they were promoted into before becoming an overpaid glorified secretary.

Gf does take/copy things from others. Bud they get mutated into some weird Globalfoundries Pygmy version of the original. But mgt, leadership and hr will point and say hey Intel or Facebook do the same exact thing - no, no they don’t. A great example is the employee self review/biannual review. For those that don’t already know it’s fake bullsh-t.

All the formers TAs I know or see are in bullsh-t posts with zero further career growth advancement opportunity.

Interesting concept…@2xds
They are basically an HR tool with no actual weight just the perception that they are prestigious

Being a TA is great. You will get promoted to Level10 if not already, specially if you are a female. You will get to go to all C suite meetings, and even to White House! If your Daddy leaves GF, he will make sure you continue to be a director. Who cares about dignity or respect from colleagues?

It is basically pledging a fraternity; get them coffee. Make sure their travel and plane tickets are arranged and booked. Also have to be on call around the clock. I didn’t get my PhD to now be a servant.

One thing I was told but wish I knew as a young engineer are that all of these programs are bullsh-t. They are made to appear prestigious but in reality they do not actually help you advance your career at all. There was some study (Harvard study?) that tracked people in said programs vs. those who didn’t participate and those who didn’t participate often advanced further and faster then those in the programs. (Just fyi study found this was due to favoritism primarily).

But in the end these programs are just glorified employee retention gimmicks used by HR and leadership to make you super loyal to company.

Think about it a different way; you go into program and complete it. Then you want to leave. Intel, Samsung, tsmc will not give a flying fu-k Who were the TA for. It won’t help you. So there is no benefit really to them for your career unless you are gluten for punishment.

Go for it, you'll not only lose your dignity, but any respect your coworkers have for you.
