Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Severance checks are starting to pop!

My friend just said his severance was pending in his bank account. Oh boy….who is going out to put that down on an EV or Ford?

Not I says the wise man.

I still own 1 unit of Ford stock in my 401k. It costs them more to mail the annual report than what it is worth.

With 1 share of stock, you can also go the annual shareholders meeting and tell the leadership team what you really think.

I interpreted the comment about the lump sum payout as being advantageous to Ford as opposed to continued payments every other week throughout the severance period. Which I understand, considering those people are no longer employees it makes sense to pay a lump sum and get em off the books.

Tax withholdings are determined by the IRS, not Ford. There are different withholding tables for different pay frequencies, with highest rates for one time payments. Ford does not benefit from your tax withholdings.

I don't remember the exact wording from the SIRP paperwork, but because the severance is paid out in a lump sum, it is taxed at a higher rate (convenient for Ford - inconvenient for us).

That could be the reason that your payment is lower than expected. I felt the same way...

2zdz, the severance amount was for the entire period you were supposed to be paid? I have a month severance but the amount shown is less than two weeks payment...

Yep. My unused vacation payment was deposited the 12th and my severance payment was deposited the 15th.

Still waiting for word from NESC regarding how to pay my healthcare premiums...

@2xmh+1iHEwTvL - You're buying a Buick? Apparently, you haven't learned anything after being cut.

You used to support Ford. You bought their products and were loyal as long as they gave you a salary. You turned your head (from seeing the misery of others) to make money for yourself disregarding the history of Ford (in the process totally disregarding how Ford has treated their own customers, suppliers, and even past "cut" employees) over the past 20 years if not longer. Then they cut you. "Only" Then (after it finally caught up with you) you decided to show them. So you stopped supporting one lousy company - turned around and now support a different lousy company.

Wow, Ford should have kept you for sure. Hopefully, you get a job a GM (supporting another lousy company by buying their products, until they cut you also).

My suggestion - start looking at the bigger bigger. The connection between large corporations and the political classes (especially a political entity that is/has literally been creating divisions/separate classes of people since at least 2008 if not the 1950s, if not the early 1800's. As a salaried, non-union employee, you aren't in one of their protected classes.) You are just a pawn to them (as most of us are). Don't believe me - just look at the news out today at which "class" of people (railroad workers) were just provided courtesy of the US Govt a "guaranteed" 25% raise over the next 5 years, plus improved health care costs, and large up-front payments. Did Ford, Buick, or any political party do that for you? No, and pull your head up out of the sand, they aren't going to either. You want to really show them - free yourself by not buying their products at all. Stop being loyal to companies (when it fits your own selfish needs - start looking at how the companies treat others, too - that is a real reflection of their corporate "values" that they all talk so much about). How many times has Ford talked about "values" and "family" over the years? None of us have enough fingers and toes to count all the times, various Ford managers have talked and talked and talked about these topics.

You said you were just "looking" at buying a Buick. Make it a used Buick, or any "used" brand for that matter. Just buy a good-value "Used" vehicle from any manufacturer, and keep it as long as it runs. Stop supporting the corporate/political US auto machine. Then continue with all of your other "material" purchases (electronics, furniture, clothing, etc.) Once, you make this type of living paradigm shift, you will find you are also much happier.

Ford doesn't know how to make good cars. They can only talk big. Spend your dollars on right products. The company will loose customers every year going forward until they file for bankruptcy.

“ The silence of Toyota, Honda is deafening. The don’t need to win market share when ford just gives it away.”

They don’t need to make any noise. They just keep doing what they always have, producing quality cars at good prices. You can still today but a Camry, nicely equipped for 25k brand new and not only have a good looking car that’s comfortable and efficient, but is going to last you a couple hundred thousand problem free miles as long as you take care of it and do basic maintenance.

I don’t work for Toyota but every car in my driveway is a Toyota.

Bill Ford and Jim Farley can go suck sand. They treated loyal employees like $hit on Aug22. It could have been a much better experience and handoff of knowledge. Shame on them, our worthless management and HR for not knowing who their employees are. The woke mentality and people caring mantra they preach is hypocrisy. It is sad that I will probably never buy a new Ford again. Too expensive, too complex and poor quality. The silence of Toyota, Honda is deafening. The don’t need to win market share when ford just gives it away.

EVs are not going to fix anything.

Funny story, I know a co-worker who was let go last April who received his severance pay via direct deposit. A few days later Ford clawed it all back from his bank account and when he contacted got told that they made a mistake in calculating the severance amount. It took month to sort it all out and he likely wouldn't have gotten it at all until he threatened to sue. So my advice - keep a close eye on your bank account!
