Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Permian LISTEN UP

If you are on the Permian I GUARANTEE you can make more at ANY competitor right now. How many of your coworkers need to quit to make more money with the company down the street before you figure this out? COME JOIN THE PARTY. If you have Uncon experience there are plenty of other operators who share the cash with employees. This goes for everyone. Lease operators, engineers, managers. Everyone is better off leaving. The bonuses are huge. Managers will try scare you saying you are taking a big risk but how many of your friends and neighbors had as big of a compensation cut as you did during COVID? Even the small operators in most cases still paid bonuses and gave raises. When there were layoffs they had actual packages for those who left. Many found jobs before too long and actually came out ahead with time off and a nice package then right back to work. THERE IS NOTHING TO LOSE AND ONLY GREENER GRASS. GTFO of ExxonMobil. They don’t pay well. They don’t value your experience. They are going to replace you with an overseas worker as quick as they can. Lose the demoralizing annual assessment. Lose the overly complex and political hurdles to getting work done. Restore your work life balance. Regain promotion opportunities instead of watching HiPos you’ve never met or seen rotate in and take the role you’ve earned. It is only going to get worse as more people quit and you are expected to just pick up the slack. How many of your colleagues who you respect and have learned from need to have their ranking rank as they approach retirement with no raises and no promotions only to be NSI the year they retire. Why do you tell yourself this won’t happen to you? Get out before they do it to you. Even if you are getting raises now you know what the future holds. Leave and establish yourself at another company. If you are a local from Midland or Carlsbad ExxonMobil has no idea what to do with you. If you want to stay local they don’t have a program to promote you. You are way better off working for someone who does. Let them try to operate with all their HiPos rotating through. Maybe they will exit in shame like they did before shale brought them back to the basin and we can make the pieces profitable again after they leave. Seriously. Go interview. Find out what you are really worth. You have nothing to lose. I guarantee you will be surprised just how much more you can make elsewhere.

OP your post seems to resonate. Several people mentioned it to me today at work.

The only way to take your power back is to NEVER stop looking for the next job.

I will give my comment later, but the only thing off here is that “The Layoff.com” people did not take your comments erased. This website always protect Permian.

What you boys don't get is the fundamental Exxon way. The expats and hipos are brought in as extra expense to the Company as an investment. The roles created and the success bestowed upon them will produce future leaders who will do so much more for the Company than the small change extea expenses incurred in their development. That is and has always been the Exxon way. Anyone not selected for these roles and preprogrammed paths to advancement are expected to play along and ensure success.

And to make things worse those two fools are each paid more than the one person they replaced. It is great to be a HiPo

The part that resonate with me is getting opportunities instead of watching HiPos rotate in and take the role you’ve earned.

I happened to me. It was a job I love and many said I was the best fit because I earned it. But someone decided to rotated two incompetent fools into the role. (Yes, 2 people do the job that used to require 1). The damage was difficult to watch. Lost millions in opportunities.

Visas for HiPos? The ones coming from BTC?

I don’t understand how they get all those visas for HiPos when we have qualified people who could fill those roles right here in the Permian.

All true things. Company will deny it and say they are competitive without comparing Permian specific salaries. Then they wonder why people are leaving for competitors. Oh right we don’t benchmark against those companies just the ones that make us look good.

Thank you for the wake up call.

I didn't need it (left 4 months ago) but it would have helped me reading this earlier to feel more empowered to leave.

I hope it helps those considering it to just do it.

Stop doing what you hate, is not good for you.

GTFO ExxonMobil.

Amen! Most unAmerican company in the American oil patch! US politicians allowing EM to outsource American jobs to develop American oil fields is absolutely disgraceful and disgusting!

If you are an engineer and willing to move but want to stay in Texas plenty of opportunities with Tesla as well. If you are on the IT side or have programming skills tech is still hot. For global projects the tech companies also are looking for project managers.

Better to make move on your own timing than to wait for the cost above field study to be completed and be laid off without a plan.

Amen brother. I predict rather than fix the problems preventing people from moving to the Permian they will come up with some stupid plan to rotate engineers out of Houston. This right after their glorious survey said we need to collaborate more. As much as they talk about external benchmarking they don’t seem to notice we continue to fail to poach from competitors while losing hoarded of people to the competition.
