Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Experiences on the job market?

Even if it is really true that there will be no new cuts until next year, the best advice is to never stop looking for the next job.
I've been trying to find something new for months and I'm not succeeding at it, probably because of my age. That's why I especially sympathize with those who are cut because it's probably even harder for them!?

In an ever aging society this luxury of picking by someone's age will be depleted soon. And also, technology is developing so quickly, getting just one degree and then work until retirement isn't going to cut it. we will need to have universities that update people back to state-of-the-art. but i agree, especially coming from Ford, there is massive age bias in that company. and its not like during your cheap years you could earn the wealth to compensate for whats missing when youre older. economies of today arent build to last. reformation will come sooner or later.

Guys who going for engineering degrees please note you have a job up to 50!

I am planning to leave Automotive / engineering at 49 1/2.
At 38 am the best in what I do and get OA every year but all this is not important as much as your age.
This is the way it works so plan for a switch.

Companies say they value older workers but that doesn't mean they hire older workers.

Things are not as they appear in the job market, especially for older workers.
