Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

New layoff rumors

Persistent rumors about layoffs are keeping me up at night. I wish I could just dismiss them but I'm just not wired that way. Does anybody know if there is any truth to them? Or better yet, can anybody confirm them as false? Stressing as much as I am over this is not healthy.

Every rumor in AIG is generally true I learned. Honestly I'm doing my job, with no stress, and also Im applying to every position I may fit for other companies. I'm sure other layoffs will come and that one day they'll come for me, If I don't find anything in the meanwhile. Also lately they are hiring back a lot of people that left years ago, maybe because they are the only one than accept to come (the insurance world is small you know, everyone knows that AIG fire people every year, and every 2/3 years it changes totally strategy and business model, closing entire departments ). These guys get hired at high wages and then leave after a while, I have seen this many times already, it's hilarious... I wonder when this Ceo will be kicked out, given that the results are pathetic

What teams were affected with today’s layoffs?

Lots of grade 21+ Employees were laid-off today. Lots of folks that thought they were safe/untouchable. Lesson learned - AIG treats all of their employees like trash, not only the minions. All of these people can use their mental wellness day to figure out how long their severance will keep them afloat. Yay AIG - you’re such a stellar organization!!! U rock!

True, head of Life Operations was let go... With multiple Presidents, CEOs and almost similar roles way up in the leadership team, it's about time they join the mass layoffs that they supported... It's absurd, they fire and then they will hire, it's a revolving door. The company is a big fan of change, the funny thing is that they just initiate the change with no end results...

Yes , the fed wants layoffs. Big banks are starting now. And AIG will follow them as they always do.

As stated below, I can confirm L&R layoffs. Not sure on the numbers but I told "a lot".
Same old "stuff" year after year. Horrible.

I am shocked managers are finally getting let go. I know in my department we are down almost 50% of actual workers in the past 2 years but no adjustment to the management staff as of yet. Makes no sense at all.

Qué será, será
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours to see
Qué será, será
What will be, will be
If we get laid off, we’ll soon see

I can confirm. This round in L&R, the cut is at management level. I don’t know the exact number but I can confirm there was layoffs already happened in this month (Sept). The best you can do for yourself is looking for new job elsewhere, outside AIG. It was the best decision I did. I should have done it earlier. The grass is truly greener on the other side.

Interesting that there is another mental well being on the last day of the 3rd Quarter and it is also a pay day….

Time for you to find a new job and make some changes in your life. AIG is a constant layoff company. If you are living beyond your means, now is the time to shed somethings. It is wonderful to not have so many things that own you.
