Thread regarding 3M layoffs

poor rewards and recognition for real workers

I work at a UK plant and over the last few years we have had our :
Christmas Bonus totally stopped, it was approx £300 if you had no days off for year
10+ years Service Dinner for employees cancelled.
two massive things for the ordinary worker deemed too costly by management,, sort it out as its ridiculous.

I work in a US plant. I have never received a cash Christmas bonus. We had an attendance recognition program with a modest token of appreciation (10 - 20 USD) for no missed days, but that ended many years ago.

Employees used to look forward to annual service awards dinner and program for employees with 15, 20, 25, ... years of service and their spouse/guest. But those are no more. This year my framed 35 Year certificate was handed to me by the UPS driver instead of a division manager as in years past. Our department manager and her spouse cooked a meal and had a small recognition program for the service awardees in our group. She paid for it out of her own pocket. Thankful that someone still appreciates the contributions and sacrifices we make.

Locally, we still go the extra mile to help each other out and we do whatever it takes to make a quality product for our customers and ship it out on time. But nobody is willing to bust their a$$ for a corporation that seems to think 2% raises that don't keep up with inflation are "competitive". Not surprising that turnover is at a record high.

Those country recog events are now “regional” to be handled by the area VPs at their discretion

I am from APAC plant and it is the same. Long service dinners are being cancelled as well.

I can understand a service dinner perhaps being postponed, as happened at a lot of companies during the beginning of the Great Recession. However, ki----g it off outright is just so shortsighted the dolts on the 14th floor must have someone telling them that the employees offered to end service dinners as part of "doing their part" to help this financially damaged company. Don't put it past these messengers to think up this bs.
