I would like to hear someone tell me that his or her hard work at Cisco is valued and adequately compensated. So far, I have not heard anyone who says that giving 120 percent of yourself and doing your job as professionally as possible is valued here.

i complete 1.5 hour days work. All TPS reports done with proper cover. Teamspace filled out. V2MOM complete. Full producutivity
My tl;dr: was better than the rest of my post so I threw the rest away.
tl;dr: work hard and grow skills both inside and outside work to survive until you no longer need to work. If you’re slacking now with what Cisco pays you won’t make it at a lower margin company when you eventually get laid off.
It is never worth it as an employee unless you get given big stock options that your hard work can influence. Cisco compensation in terms of salary is dire by comparison with other tech companies. It is not worth it going above and beyond.
MM has a budget and gives raises based only on s-x or ethnicity, HR controls the budget , no one knows the criteria beyond above.
Does that sound like something that motivates performance?

Pro tip: You should work like it's a start-up, only if it's a start-up. If the place has a support contract with Lenovo, Herman Miller chairs and it's own stock ticker and you'll still livin' that "sigma grindset". You're an id--t.
Hard work in IT. Please. Don't confuse long hours with hard work. You don't realize how easy you have it compared to blue collar workers. Hard work in IT ... that will always make me laugh. Go mine Musk's cobalt 16 hours a day for $2. Go clean up airport toilets, then go flip burgers as your second job to barely make ends meet.

It did definitely used to be at Cisco.
The biggest reason I moved across the country and started here many years ago were the stock options, for just about everyone at Cisco.
Looking back, we (us in TAC) did some crazy behaviors with crazy hours. It was a whole culture, who mostly truly wanted to work, insanely at times, on technology. The customer demand was there.
The craziness did pay off, in my mid 50s and could retire. Tomorrow if I wanted to.
Because of: early 2000s stock options.
Would I work at that level without the options? No way. Don't ask.
It took a long time but we now have a walking zombie company. So sad to see.
What is the next big innovation wave? Mediocrity. Perpetually.
Enjoy the mindless trip into purgatory, knowing in your gut you could have done so much more, but chose to ride along into the abyss. Why?
Take a chance and push yourself. Do not waste your potential best.
It used to be , joined post 2000 and had some great years. Where hard work was genuinely rewarded by senior leadership as well as monetary by options (worker bee level here) it all went down the drain over time.
Now if they ask me to go above and beyond the call of the duty. I look at my newborn and my priorities are clear.
Never work hard in IT. Work smart. Automate, reuse, focus on high-visibility projects, get others' input, etc.
Hard work building strategic relationships pays off at Cisco. Just don't think learning new skills or adding value to the company will be rewarded. It's all about relationships
Many years ago, hard work at Cisco was rewarded with stock options all the way down to the administrative assistants - some admins became millionaires because of the frequent stock splits. The teamwork and "never lose" mentality that policy created was a thing of beauty.
When anyone raised their hand and said they were about to lose a deal, the entire company would turn and focus on how to help the local account team win. People took red eyes to other countries, lived out of a suitcase for weeks, etc.
Given that the company only rewards the higher grade levels with RSUs, there's little incentive for that kind of effort these days. Unfortunately, it would be hard to make these investments given that the company isn't growing much.
Those of us that were there to experience those days were lucky. We saw a little upstart all running in the same direction and defining the Internet as we know it today.
Every now and then I will read a post like this and wonder what planet the OP lives on because it is certainly not here on Earth with me.
Corporate executives across the country are guaranteed exorbitant compensation and golden parachutes irrespective of company performance. Cisco could go down in flames quicker than the Hindenburg and rest assured Chucky and his cronies will not lose a moment of blissful sleep.
The same peons who witness this highway robbery every day then take to anonymous internet forums to ego stroke and virtue signal. "How come n'un a yah's workz hard like me?! I'm an honest man and I makez an honest buck!" The C-suite must secretly peruse these sites and incredulously laugh their heads off while reading this insanity. They know they've got a bunch of obedient suckers on their hands.
Hard work is only worthwhile if you are a business owner or major stockholder in a company. If you are a worker bee then you play the game to your advantage. Find a role that is completely useless (hint: they all are), show up every now and then, smile, coast, save a substantial portion of your paycheck, and get out of dodge the first chance you get.
I do not work hard, I have never worked hard, and I will never work hard. No stress lines on this beautiful face of mine.
