This isn’t really a layoff post except for the fact it involves a movie that has layoffs in it and reminds me of EM in many ways.
My boss is starting to complain about anyone (except himself) working from home. On average, he works from home 2 days a week. I wouldn’t care at all if he didn’t complain when anyone else needs to work
from home. I have worked from home once in 3 weeks.
My daughter was really struggling with the sudden su----e of her best friend. My boss balked at my request to work from home to keep an eye on my daughter for a couple of days. I did it anyway. When I returned to work, I was so tired and torn between work & home that I almost (loosely) quoted the movie Office Space out of pure frustration.
Boss: Hey, we've noticed you’ve missed quite a bit of work lately.
Me: (snickering) Well Bob, I wouldn’t actually say I MISSED work.
Anyway, if anyone wants to laugh instead of cry about work, this movie might do the trick. I highly recommend it.
Anyone, who…
has a micromanager boss
Must deal with clueless consultants
Have a long difficult commute
Must follow Id--tic policies
Has no relief from work on weekends
Must deal w/ a wonky printer/plotter.
OR sits next to an annoyingly loud person in the next cube
My favorite part in the movie was the TPS reports. If you’ve had to time write at EM using TSP, you’ll really appreciate the TPS reports in the movie. At one time I swore that someone from my group at EM consulted on the film because it was far too relatable.
