Thread regarding Citrix Systems Inc. layoffs

How does everyone feel about returning to office?

We received the announcement today that starting October 1st, everyone in a non-remote position is expected to return to office. What are your thoughts? I personally am not happy with this because ever since the pandemic, I’ve acclimated to a remote worker lifestyle (ex. having the flexibility of stepping away from my desk for 20 min as I pick up the kids after school in the afternoon). Going back to the office is going to be a big change for me. Not really looking forward to it. Hope we have the option to work hybrid.

I guess all the feedback and data from all the Pulse surveys and eNPS are useless now. Pretty sure having a flexible/hybrid work environment was the #1 reason why people loved working at Citrix. It was also another key benefit of working here. Total double-standard that it's the technology we create but not allowing our own employees to benefit from it. Does none of that matter anymore?

Tom just want to make us leave voluntarily. So that he doesn’t need to pay severance package

Thankfully, I saw the writing on the wall and submitted a request to be a FTE (full time employee) in 2021 when I thought they would be enforcing us to go back -- even though I lived 2 miles from the office. Now I'm a FTE, moved and working from another state. Happy I made the jump early. HR/managers are going to be slammed with a huge batch of FTE requests after people see this email. Can't believe that we don't believe in the technology we sell... or maybe they don't believe in their workforce.. either way, doesn't affect me. Thankfully. Hating that they are taking this step. Not going to boost moral at all.

Guy saying: "being on gotomeeting or zoom calls." It's so completely obvious you don't even work at the company just by this comment alone.

The world has changed and evolved. Most of the people that most roles collaborate with aren't even in the same office anymore. Yes, it's nice to have lunch every once in a while, but most of the time you're going to be sitting on a virtual meeting anyway. It does not need to be EVERY day at the office.

You should evolve too into the new world of work. Oh... wait.... remember this one.... Citrix: This is How The Future Works.... Citrix predicted it, but is now going back to the stone age.

They want to walk you out of the office on your last day.

100% agree with the below comment. People got too accustomed to remote work. Now it’s back to reality time!

Go back to the office to sit on a Teams meeting with remote people. Makes perfect sense.

Going back to what everyone used to do only 2.5 years ago.

Many of you work with other people and your interactions are what creates innovation, not just hacking away at your computer by yourself. This is why we gather around the coffee area, have lunch with friends from adjacent departments or other floors of the building and come back to our desk with new ideas, different thinking around what we are working on, and often, a new name to call upon when we are stuck.

For those of you working with teams in Bangalore or Prague or the other coast, just think of how much progress you make when you go and meet the people vs. being on gotomeeting or zoom calls.

So stand up from your couch, take off your pajamas and put on your jeans or Lululemons, and polo shirt with your favorite Citrix project, and get back to the real world of work!

Or start making your list of excuses to your spouse or friends on why you didn't get the next when promotion or management role.

It's so obvious that they're trying to get more people to quit so they don't have to pay any severance at all. "Maintain base salary" is to stave off any expectations that the packages will be better for anyone trying to hang in there. As a former Koolaid drinker, this is not the same company we all knew, loved, and threw our entire lives into. Citrix died of the SAP cancer.

Considering most of those I collaborate with every day are not in my office (and about 90% of them are not even in my COUNTRY), RTO does nothing to bolster collaboration.

Hey at least we'll "maintain our base salaries"! So we got that going for us, which is nice. :-/

RTO in the spirit of "culture"??? What a joke. My guess is that will squeeze any life left in the remaining employees. Imagine rolling up to the office, requesting a desk, and sitting there miserable next to everyone else who feels the same. Sounds like fun. Also, do they think we haven't been collaborating effectively this whole time? So archaic.

It’s only the first wave. Most people in the states have at will employment. The next phase will be telling the remote workers that their positions have changed and they will either need to relocate close to a Citrix office or face termination.

Both this announcement and subsequent ones will lead to a spike in attrition and less severance to be paid.

Beyond time to update the resume'.... They are going to lose what's left of the technical teams with that decision.
