Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Writing is on the wall what Ford wants

If you're 50+, with a minimum of 10 yrs of service...keep your resume up-to-date.

They don't care how much you know, how loyal you are, or how hard you work. Unless you're a drinking buddy of an influential LL, you will be targeted on any round of cuts.

To poster with 64 and 2 years of service: no, 10 years means nothing in the target. It is your age. At 64, they have no idea when you might leave, so they aren't going to invest in you. Second, they don't want a 64 year old with the potentially large medical costs that many people of that age incur to be on the active employee medical plan. Why do you think they booted retirees off the Ford plan onto the exchange? That is a big cost save.

Regarding the "Hackett folks" comment. Yes AV and Mobility. But don't forget about D-Ford. While goods things have come from the organization, most of their deliverables have been concepts that just reside in online repositories never to see the light of day. Don't know if they were targeted in this round, but definitely and prime target in the future.

This is why once you turn 50, you should

  1. Have no mortgage or be close to paying it off.
  2. Have no car payment.
  3. Have at least 300 plus thousand in savings.
  4. Have another skill outside of automotive.
  5. 0 or very low credit card debt
  6. No other outstanding loans or debt.

For those close to 30 years get out. If the company freezes the pension, you leave money on the table for JF overpaid bonus. Everyone takes a risk that interest rates come back down. but you have to wander if you will even have a job before those rates go down. LL2s stated back in 2018-time frame that 41% of the salaried workforce were Retirment eligible inside of five years. Once they get that down below 15%, they will freeze it.
Don't leave money for these people to pocket. Both Hackett and Farley are a joke. their mark will be a much smaller Ford if not out of business. If skillset is a concern. then why JF is Bill Ford still involved? That train station is a demonstration he does not know what he is doing. Ford has to depend on government handouts to keep them afloat. The press continues to cover for them. Sad, we lack real leadership and product to back it up.

I am 64 with 2 years of service, was classified as HTHD (high tech high demand) and was let go on August 22nd. So at least in my case, the 10+ years at Ford argument for being a target, does not work.

Ford - i.e Farley ( poster child for failing up ), have no direction and no ' roadmap ' what they want. Since Mark Field's time electrification and autonomous vehicles were a priority - Hackett's ' gift ' were the so-called design thinkers and ' redesign ' of Ford that led nowhere - investment in Argo is a fail. Farley brings in all these outsiders - Doug Field, Alan Clarke, Franck Louis Victor and there is nothing but churn, talk and indecision. Ford aka Farley have lost an enormous amount of talent and intelligence and have demonstrated loyalty, long term commitment and performance are meaningless. Time is ticking on Farley, investors continue to loose confidence. What remains are some good folks, plenty of ' fakes ' ( they talk the talk but can not produce a vehicle or service ) - Ford has established a pattern of layoffs every 2-3 years - shame on Bill. Poor Hau was made a fall guy. Those over 50 with over 20 years of service were clear targets. Next in line will be the Hackett folks, the AV & ' mobility ' teams that have produced nothing. People are NOT first at Ford, talent will leave and Farley will be removed.
