IOL Upstream Engineering - Head Count Reduction

I am struggling to believe what I heard. Did I hear it right that IOL’s Upstream Engineering will be trimmed by 60 people by the end of the year? If it doesn’t happen by attrition, the balance will be PIPed/laid-off??

Seems to be happening at Kearl as well. They'll be happy when anything is automated or outsourced.

Imperial and EM plans to ship more and more work to LCC is just crazy. BTC is in a hiring spree and at home we are not even close to replacing the people that were laid-off, quit or retired.
More work is being moved to MSP’s and GPC’s.
We are literally working ourselves out of our jobs.
Only secure jobs are those that require a wrench. And managers of course.

As a share-holder of Imperial Oil, I see benefit is reducing headcount to reduce overhead cost, as long as safety and reliability of the plants are not compromised.

The big question is, how can Imperial Oil Management ensure that, with the reduced headcount, they can maintain safety and profitability??

Imperial executives and managers are the most fortunate corporate employees in the world. They receive high salaries and benefits for simply following instructions from their handlers in Exxon. There is no mind and management and incompetancy is the norm. No manager makes any decisions since they all like to play it safe and off course no one takes responsibility or is held accountable for their actions.

Imperial is replacing employees with low cost centers in India and contractors as employees are displaced. This is the strategy.

Imperial managers will do what ever they need to do to keep their EM bosses happy and maintain their high paying job and bonus.

The projects organization in Calgary has a clown manager that is all he does. Sad.

I hear that when people leave the company is due to “personal choice”

Not sure why you are so surprised. Imperial Oil’s head count reduction trend (only for Calgary) started even before COVID. The technical jobs are gradually moving to the TCs.
