Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Does Citrix have all the pieces to compete with Vmware?

Seems Citrix has all the pieces ... what are they missing that prevent them from competing with VMware? I know for a fact they seem to focus on the desktop side or DAAS.

Happens a lot in healthcare still. I geniunely think Horizon is in a better spot then WS1 purely on numbers they(higher-ups) have thrown around. That being said we are to friendly with MSFT which will long term hurt us. When you can't run office in anything but their cloud it makes it difficult to compete.

The only thing that could change that is a mass exodus of office or windows os.

The better question is really, is there a long-term market for VDI/DaaS in general? Can either VMW or Citrix outcompete Microsoft? Ask the SE's when the last time was that they did a Citrix / VMW DaaS or VDI bake-off...

VMWare is a Hypervisor company that dabbles in desktop virtualization / DaaS.... Citrix is a desktop virtualization / DaaS company that dabbles with a Hypervisor. VMWare has NEVER competed against Citrix... VMWare never had feature parity...ever. VMWare only works on vSphere (yes yes, cloud too..as long as it's on dedicated vSphere) which makes the addressable market for VMWare EUC (not Airwatch EUC) market smaller every day.

Ask yourself this: If you were starting a new company today, would you even CONSIDER VMWare VDI / DaaS? He-l, Would you even CONSIDER vSphere?

Citrix out features us in EUC but not vSphere. That being said we win a lot because we are a bit easier to work with in all aspects vs their support and sales team.

Anyone who thinks VMware is ahead of Citrix on features drank too much of the kool aid. VMware is far behind Citrix in features - EUC messaging is 50% fraud at least. Madden figured it out too.

Citrix could have a competitive advantage simply by making it easy to buy, easy to deploy, and have a technical support org with just a modicum of responsiveness and true customer care.

Citrix is in even a bigger mess than VMware. They are currently being gutted by private equity. VMware surpassed them on features years ago. Citrix has been plagued by botched releases.

Citrix began the EUC industry in early nineties, even Microsoft RDS and RDP are offchutes. VMware started really competing only about 12 years ago. Customers like choice so it is competitive but Citrix is far ahead in many areas.
