Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Why do they hire so many Indians who don’t have US citizenship?

I would love to see more Indian Americans here or people with permanent green cards.

write your congressman and complain and tell them what is really happening. They hire their own and slowly weed out Americans. Sharia law in effect

Fidelity is a toxic work environment.there is cronyism and disrespect for co workers.management allows people to be overworked then they make fun of them working late, while the managers go home !

well..firstly how do you think people get 'green card'? A lot of them do via work sponsoring it and h1b is the first step towards it. Fidelity is not competitive in terms of salary, so many of the software engineers leave once they get their green cards.

all in all - green card/PR/Citizens and even h1b's - all leave once they find better roles. Thats just how it is and should be. Fidelity thinks that they can hold h1b's as indentured serfs. But many companies will pay up to transfer the visa, if they are worth it. They even pay for the permanent residence lawyers, premium processing fees - whatever it takes. At Fidelity, people have to pay out of their pockets to get employment based green card.

PS - I am a US citizen. I have experience growing/managing tech teams in other companies as well as Fidelity. Fidelity truly sucks w.r.t. our immigration processes. We think of it as a cost to be minimized and not as an avenue to grab global talent. We get what we pay for...

All local talent and green card holders are in better well paying jobs.

So true here. Fidelity pay is lousy for software developers, plain and simple. They can do much better elsewhere. If Fidelity were to just be competitive with their pay, they could bring back internal talent, but until then they will have to continue with H1b or outsource.

  1. Recruiting local talent will be expensive and they have to pay more, and they are not getting local talent. Indians on L1 visa cannot change jobs, and it's tough with H1B also. So they are stuck to the company. So it's great for long term cost saving and retention.
  1. Diversity and Inclusion factor, one reason why many Indian women were given position here recently especially in senior positions.
  1. In places in North Carolina, when the Office opened. There were not many in USA who applied, so many in Fidelity India applied and got those jobs.
  1. The company which provides contractors like prosource/or other service providers (who did cloud migration etc) is again full of Indians only who joined those companies for H1B sponsorship.

All local talent and green card holders are in better well paying jobs.

if you have to ask that question, then you must be very inexperienced.

The whole reason is that it’s cheaper. Duh. All kinds of races of citizens and immigrants work in the other countries and the US.

Indians on H1b are cheaper and can be removed any minute. Their green card application process keeps them "tied" to the company for years. Smart move.
