Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Trying to remain focused in the face of layoffs

I'm trying in vain, because I can't concentrate on work at all while thinking about whether or not I'll be cut. Can anyone really concentrate on work now? I doubt it.

It amazes me we get this empathy pledge from JM so late in the game. C'mon.... They know the numbers and timing. If they were about empathy and caring, we would have been seeing it all along WITHOUT JF having to say it. Track record.

54% AICP.... No empathy. "We don't have the talent/right talent...." No empathy. Secret late April layoffs.... No empathy. Us having to find out about massive job cuts through the press.... No empathy. Way this continues to be handled.... No empathy.

Whether they realize it or not, Ford is creating this culture of people motivated to do work that best suits that person to survive or purposely get cut with a decent severance. It's moving away from the best work. It also amazes me how they'll now break it off in us if the LL5 or 4+ population benefits in the slightest. If they don't care, why should we?

It doesn't matter if you focus or don't focus, what's at stake for focusing ? producing more c-r-a-p vehicles like the Bronco or other ones that will catch fire and burn someone's house down...with all this looming over you, just adopt the WGAF attitude, it is more than obvious that Ford is a ShxtHole and a terrible place to work...just let it all fall apart

Yeap! I too find it hard to focus on my work with all the news and rumors. I have already planned for all the possible outcomes. Also, I have enough cash stashed to live for a while. However, as I try to work on the assigned projects, sometimes I get hit with a wave of senselessness.

Why am I putting my effort in here, when all can be over any minute? I am probably wasting my time. When my replacements are ready, they will develop their own solutions, without looking at my approach. It doesn't matter how good was my work all these years, everybody will blame me (in absence) for all the future issues. I will become just an excuse for the ones remaining behind.

Those are not really good thoughts for motivation. At the end, it is not about leaving or staying in the company. It is about dealing with the unknown.

"That the birds of worry and care fly over your head, this you cannot change, but that they
build nests in your hair, this you can prevent." - Chinese Proverb

This is one of my favorite sayings/proverbs. Control what you can control and have plans for what you cannot.

Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. I rarely read this site but checked in after hearing the news. I was let go during SRD and I’ll admit it gave me a rough few days but I moved on quickly and now I’m happy as a clam. I actually found the stress of worrying about cuts was worse than being cut.

I’m in touch with a few others who were released and they moved on quickly too and actually have more fulfilling positions than when they worked at Ford. Naturally it’s stressful to lose your job but you’ll likely find a job that’s just as good, maybe better, before your severance is used.

Good luck to all. I hope the stress of this is over soon so you can go back to enjoying your life. And you will go back to enjoying your life.

Seems to be the consensus from everyone I talk to. Everyone has this looming over, because no one knows who will be affected. I've planned for the worst case, and I'm ready to roll of the something happens, but the transition will be harder for others. This has to be addressed upfront before the entire company devolves into a constant pattern of stress and inaction because no one knows what is going on or if they will be targeted.

I think people cannot focus because of the fear of the unknown. One thing that might help is to write out the possible outcomes and have an action plan for each. You might still have some anxiety, but now you have a known plan or 'way forward'.
