Thread regarding VMware layoffs

C'mon, get real

When I read some of these posts about how some have left the company or are already seriously looking for new offers, I get the impression that this was an ideal company that no one would have left if it wasn't for this acquisition.

Was this really such an ideal company?
Wasn't anyone thinking of leaving even before the announcement?

Exactly, brcm is toxic at all, if you are elder, you can stay, otherwise run away, now

I just left after a long tenure with VMW and I would not have left if not for Broadcom.

No company is perfect but VMware treated employees like humans and valuable team members and listens to them. VMware did have its challenges but the pay and environment made it more than worth while to stay, and it's possibly the best company I've worked for. I wouldn't be looking at other options if not for the acquisition.

A lot of people are leaving not because of dissatisfaction with VMware but fear about Broadcom. Everything I've heard about Broadcom is bad, and it's not even for sure that you'll last long enough to be miserable working for them.

I know several people who don't have their green cards yet, so can't afford to wait around and see if they get axed or not.

I was thinking about it yes. But VMware is one of the better paying companies with excellent benefits. Can’t deny that. But I did leave because of the acquisition because I prefer to define my own future. I couldn’t live with the anxiety for 18 months not knowing if I am being let go or not and if I were, thinking about the number of people I’d have to compete against on the market if 100s or 1000s being let go.

Depends on where you've been. I spent years working at a company with what sounds like the same toxic work environment as BC. VMW for me has been the best place I've ever worked and I will never go back to working at a place like BC. That is what many are leaving because like me, many have been there, done that, don't want to do it again.
