Thread regarding VMware layoffs

I'll stay as long as I can

I appreciate that some people want to leave before things get too bad to have some control over what's happening, but I'm not leaving any time soon. I like my job and if there is even a sliver of a chance that I'll continue doing it after the acquisition, I'm going to stay and see it through. I understand being scared, but too many are willing to give up a good thing before the fact.

This site should be called mixedmetaphorsgalore.com. “The place where frogs in a pot of water are not slowly boiled, but instead have screws turned on them.” :P

Op, absolutely, if you want to try to stay because you like what you do & where you do it, that's not a problem. If you are chosen to become a Broadcom employee, just be aware that you'll be treated like the metaphorical "frog in a pot of water". You'll start out thinking - oh, this wasn't SO bad, yes, key people are gone, but we can manage. Then Broadcom keeps turning the screws and you'll have fewer competent co-workers to collaborate with, and more workload - every 6-12 months like clockwork. If you are in a customer-facing role, the stress & abuse you'll have from trying to satisfy customers may make you re-think. YMMV in your role.

I am currently interviewing with a few companies. First of all, the jobs are starting to dry up. Fast. A few weeks ago there were 100's of job postings for my field of expertise. Now there are few new postings and many are from companies like Google where all new hires have been halted. News of this acquisition could not have happened at w worst time with the economy getting jittery and companies battening down the hatches.

Do I feel great about possibly leaving VMware? No. But I do not see a way forward once this deal closes. I fully expect to lose my job on day one since I don't work on products and am not an engineer. Broadcom will do what it does best which is to ruin companies. VMware is no different.

This site and others are so overwhelmingly negative. Its probably best not to look here but its hard not watching the trainwreck happen in slow motion.

Agree, no one has claimed to be an expert, but they appear to talk with authority, when they shouldn’t. Sharing opinion is ok, but a very small number of people actually know where the transaction is and they don’t post on here. I don’t know Mr Robbins.

No one claimed to be "experts", we are just b*tching because that's what people do on thelayoff.com. This isnt a Tony Robbins motivational conference. 🤣

I am one of the people that left. I still wonder if I made the right choice. I like my new job, it’s teaching me a lot, but it’s not VMware. The career trajectory that comes with working for an industry giant isnt there anymore. I am happy with my decision, but no one can say they know what the right decision is right now. You should do whatever you feel is best for you

Each person should do what is best for them. The challenge is (in some cases) the job we know and love today will be different once the acquisition closes. It could be better (unlikely but possible) or it could be worse. A friend of mine that stayed with Broadcom said that she went from being part of a large group (+100 people) to be one of two remaining. She said the good news, management doesn’t care about level of service and for them to focus on keeping the lights on. She hates the work and hates the job, but likes the RSU’s so she stays. Everyone should do whatever they think is best, and for some of you (OP) I would recommend you stop visiting this site. Move forward…

All aboard the VMware “bisto” train. Stoping at Woke, Diversity, Pro-noun and turtle stations. Transfer at BC station for a cheaper, less comfortable ride into oblivion.

Did I miss any stations ?

Well said. Lots of ‘experts’ with insight on here who clearly know very little as to what is happening behind closed doors. Stay positive!
