How is Ford's ranking level system done? I'm a GM engineer [Level 6A] wheras my engineering manager is Level 8.
Way positions are coded seem confusing.

Some strange answers in the LL ranks here. In engineering, it is generally:
LL6 = Supervisor
LL5 = Manager
LL4 = Senior Manager, having a mix of LL5 and LL6 direct reports
LL3 = Chief Engineer
LL2 = Director
LL1 = VP and up
Both LL1 and LL2 seem to cover the old E-band. Free company car and gas, executive pension, and other perks. LL4 gets lease cars in retirement and a very healthy pension, so if you get into management, shoot for this.
Most of the above is accurate
GSR -> General Salary Roll, paid twice a month, ranges from 1 (junior) to 8 (senior)
LL -> Leadership Level, paid once a month
There is an E band above LL1 that Farley and some of his reports sit in.
LL3-LL6 pay for their management leases, ranging from about $400/mo for a base F150XL to $1350 or so/mo for a tricked out Navigator L. For the last 18 months, there's been almost no ordering, and only 'inventory' vehicles that folks can choose from (and they recently pulled that rug out too and now you have to ask for permission to get an inventory unit)
Part of the management lease agreement is that you're 'encouraged' to let others take your car for evaluations of up to 3 days (not that I've ever met any leaders that offered their people / friends this)
For engineers:
GSR6 (entry level, welcome on board, there is no training for you lol but find yourself around, as a matter of fact no one will judge you on your GSR level so that is good, live and learn)
GSR7 (after roughly 2 years or so, you may train new hires, having gone through the ups and downs, depending on where you stand, after proving yourself and being involved in some projects you likely complained enough that oops, you got promoted)
GSR8 (end of succession for the 95% majority, you are likely among the most experienced in your role and LL5 will approach you regularly for your opinion, in rare circumstances you may get pay raises outside of this order but no one will admit that and you might be waiting years, 1.5-2% pay increases from here on forward, if you stay two decades you may reach your pay bracket)
GSR's do not get a "company car", their role however may require prototype testing and vehicle benchmarking. Don't succeed too quickly or your pay progression suffers severely. Better to give it some time before going for that GSR8.
LL6 (supervisor of GSR6-8, 5-30 reports depending, requires a masters degree usually, in the olden days around 10-15 years in the company, most will not make it into this role or fight their entire career for it, nowadays some mid-20's will get here after 5 years in the company, it is weird and depends on whom you know and apparently your gender. You interview new hires, you will get lot's of heat from all sorts of places above you but as Sergeant you will have to keep it real with your GSR's, tough spot to be in)
LL6's get company cars but the car is gone when you leave your rank. And you can't renew your vehicle all the time. Higher level vehicles I believe even require supplemental payments.
LL5 (manager of 2-10 LL6's, you are now a Colonel and officially part of the higher class and will go through a noticeable personality change, but you may get a lot of beating from upstairs; GSR's will try to look up to you and anyone below you will need your approval if they seek to make a career step sideways or upwards, you take final hiring decisions, you could shape the culture of your team but you might be too busy surviving, if you survive long enough you will be a salary-millionaire, don't show off your BOSS suit pants)
LL4 (you may be mistaken for an LL3; LL4's have been axed during SRD but are now returning lol, as an LL4 you know exactly how the game is played, you don't take particular interest in GSR matters, you mostly look up the hill from here, you are also aware you will be a millionaire somewhat soonish if not already)
LL3 (I thought you were an LL2?)
LL2 (A Chief of something, you are potentially the head of hundreds and hundreds of employees but not necessarily, everyone will look up to your decisions and opinions, you can end programs and delay launches depending, change career paths of anyone, reshape what departments are about, and be in the know of anything that is going on with the company, are you a free-mason? did you co-sign the constitution? who knows but it's possible. unless you are the result of too many restructures and you don't hold actual power)
LL1 (Director, you are the General now and have multiple assistants surrounding you managing your day, multi-millionaire, you may know you're not gonna make CEO but Vice-President is in your reach, you are more of a political figure at this point, you will never ever deal with GSR's on a working level lol but GSR's will talk about "The Director")
Vice-presidents: mostly political at this point, heck knows what's going on "up there", you give "direction" that's for sure, hold a speech or something.
GSR = general salary role
GSR1-GSR8. New hire engineers typically start as GSR6.
LL = leadership level
LL6-LL1 decreasing as separation to CEO decreases.
LL6 is a supervisor.
I think GM’s 7C-7A is equivalent to GSR 7/8. Level 7 is still non-management. Level 8 is officially management and comes with a company car.
Do all LLs get a company lease?
LL stands for "Leadership Level" which is what Ford calls all supervisory and management level employees. The LL goes from LL6 (supervisor/team leader), LL5 (manager), LL4 (Chief), etc. all the way to LL1 (CEO). The higher the management position, the lower the LL#. It's the opposite at GM, Level 6A-6C at GM is the equivalent of GSR7-8 non-management salaried at Ford, whereas Level 7A/7B is the equivalent of a LL6 supervisor at Ford, and Level 8A/8B is equivalent of a manager or chief at GM.
It goes GSR1 to GSR8 (continuously) I believe, 8 being the most senior (non-manager/supervisor positions). I think GSR stands for general salaried employee. After GSR8 it goes LL6 and then counts down continuously to LL1-CEO. I'm not sure what LL stands for (Line Leader?) It is confusing, but that's roughly how I understand it.
