Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

Nobody cares anymore

I don't know a single person who's still going the extra mile. The top performers who used to go above and beyond are now doing only what they have to. AIG has gone too far in how badly it treats employees and this is the logical reaction to it. Morale is down, productivity is down, and nobody cares. Sad.

We are heading into a very deep recession. With high inflation and your retirement account will be decimated. Companies will be laying off in mass. Finding a job will be extremely difficult in coming years. You should haver made your move back in 2020 if this complaining is not all bluster. If you have a family to take care of and a mortgage perhaps you should start caring more about your current position.

It seems that there are several of us feeling the same disgust with AIG. There is absolutely no point in going above and beyond in hopes of advancement. We all know that their big plan is have massive layoffs to save the firm money. Their big plan is to outsource job functions as soon as possible. I do the bare minimum now after years of not receiving a salary increase, not even for cost of living or inflation. Fk AIG. I'm working on my personal health and well being and on planning for my future (while awaiting the inevitable and sizeable layoffs that they plan on having). I don't know anyone who is happy working at AIG. Worst Mgmt team I've ever seen.

My opinion, it’s too far gone to right the ship in any meaningful way without dumping huge amounts of money into this dumpster fire. Even if they had the cash to pour in, attracting talent that could actually execute such a maneuver would be exceedingly difficult. AIG has a reputation for anyone smart enough to look.

The culture needs to change before you’ll be able to attract the best of the best again, and every moment that passes, more goes down the tubes. AIG seems like it’s in a death spiral, they just don’t know it yet. The way things are going, maybe the only way to save it would be to break it up and have each piece absorbed into other companies that could actually affect change.

Maybe that’s always been the goal. Drive this thing into the ground so hard there’s no other choice.

Seems like we’re almost there.

Consistent input here. Even some senior blokes I know are going thru the motions. Why, you ask? Because we have a giant leadership vacuum at the very top, especially in IT. The recent departures are a welcome change. Is it fixable? Based on AIG’s track record, doubtful. IT is mostly contractors now anyway, like jackals feeding on carrion.

Exactly what I did, put in the bare minimum to take care of my customers and appear I was busy but started my own business, got my financials in order , and worked on my mental health. I knew the rif was coming so why ki-l yourself for no raise and certain layoff. F sr mgt.

I have a full-time position. I put in maybe 15 to 20 hours a week of actual work. Also, started a side gig during AIG work hours. AIG only works if you consider it a part time job with full time benefits and you understand this is a temporary position. Thousands of you will not be here in 1 to 3 years and it won't be your decision whether you stay or not so trying to climb the corporate ladder at AIG is futile. Take it for what it is, a short-term job. If you want a career go work for a quality company.

Instead of working hard at your job.. work hard on improving your mental and physical health. If an unrealistic deadline or goal isn’t met, no one cares… they didn’t pay you enough to care.

I personally worked with some of the hardest working AIG staff. I knew all their monthly numbers, late hours and weekend work. Their reward? Laid off and their jobs shipped overseas. Now, for those of us that remain, why would we want to excel at our jobs when you will ultimately be shown the door? There is no way to repair the trust that has been lost. I guess this is why they will continue on this foolish path.

I know I don't care anymore. After one of my most productive years ever, I was given 2%. My boss had no control. It came from above. Years past were some goose eggs, and I was going to be "caught up" this time. Why would I ever work harder when that's what's at the end of the rainbow. It's not worth my time. I've gotta get out of here.

There is no benefit or reward for doing anything beyond the bare minimum. At times doing the bare minimum is going above and beyond…

Yep, that’s the new norm. Just collect a check and wait for the inevitable.
