Two Tech Leaders gone this week

So Steve F yesterday and SY tomorrow. What is going on? What happened to the re-org that has been discussed for months but never announced? What is going on with AIG management?

This will also probably be used as fear mongering to “encourage” the remaining staff to work extra hard for fear of rifs, that will come regardless of how hard you work, and to impressive whatever new “senior management” figurehead they install. All while denying the workers raises, cost of living increases, replacing lost staff… it makes you wonder if that figurehead is needed at all and if that money can just be reallocated to worker compensation.
I’m sure when it comes time for bonuses and pay increases they will say they have no budget, but a new senior “leader” will bring in more of there own friends for exorbitant salaries and newly created roles, other than the usual expenses are too high from going to “cloud”.

The reason is simple: cost overruns.

Cloud was promised as the savior that could drive technology costs lower. Not only hasn't that happened, costs are rising. It likely costs more for AIG to operate in the cloud than it did having a dedicated staff, and their own data centers. And quality has plummeted. Everyone there has seen it. Apps are no longer load balanced in many cases, outages are more frequent. Let's not even get started on how going to these cloud providers has placed a target on their back for hackers...

The really bad part is: it's probably too late to reverse course. Contracts were signed, essential employees were fired or rif'd, apps have been moved, servers have been decommed. It's a royal mess.

At AIG, they don't play the team game. They play the blame game. Someone had to be blamed. I bet that's why these exits are happening.

Did they choose poorly? Or were they merely the messengers that were brought in for one key task - rifs…..???

Everything else seems to be secondary…
