Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I heard a rumor of three separate rounds of cuts in Aug, Sept and Oct. Has anyone else heard this? Why 3? Why not 1?

I can’t imagine getting a voluntary and then passing all my work off to someone who will get an involuntary.

The management is scrambling to save their kingdoms which no longer exist due to Model E, Ford pro and Ford Blue.

@3vtz have you heard the parody of Chuck E.'s in Love (Rickie Lee Jones song) that one of the musical GSRs wrote? It’s called Chuck He’s Inept. Hilarious and sadly true. Split a gut when the GSR sang it.

IDK what ITO leadership has been smoking?
Square One: They SRD all the tech spec LL6 despite being advised not to.
Square Two: Oh Shxt mode bring in tons of contractors cuz work not getting done. Wonder why? could it be because there are no tech spec to instruct and lead GSR?
Square Three (aka back to Square Two): Release the contractors they brought on.

Funniest thing (sad funny) was LL3 attending project meetings for a year for a project that for which there was a published and reviewed run book. It was a running joke to see how long before the project leaders realized there was already a published solution and that they were wasting time. The answer: never and the project was a flop. A ton of inept people jawing for a year. Status Quo.

@2xqn+1htNnlXJ Layoffs in April were more than 500: https://www.cnbc.com/2022/04/28/ford-cuts-580-us-salaried-agency-workers-as-it-restructures-for-evs.html

Turns out the day before a long weekend was picked for this round, hundreds of agency were let go today.

"The threshold for the WARN Act is if they plan on laying off more than 500 employees (or 30% of their workforce)."

I did not know this. Now I know why the layoffs in April were just under 500. Wow, what a company

Confirmed. 110% of salaried workforce to be severed.

Previous poster is absolutely correct. I can corroborate his statement. The big one is in October.

I just asked my magic 8 ball and it said YES DEFINITELY when I asked if there will be layoffs in October. You cannot dispute that. It is never wrong.

This is a rumor. I know for a fact the date is in October. That’s when the layoffs will be. Mark my word.

Talent pool needs improved? Leadership talent for sure. The days they stabbed Mark Fields and Joe Heinrich’s in the back was the last time this company was led anywhere. Parlor tricks and gimmicks ever since.

Layoffs are NOT rare at Ford. In my tenure, I've been through seven rounds of them, not including the one coming. Some have been bigger than others, but all of them are significant, especially to those who are separated (no matter whether involuntary or voluntary.) That averages to a big one about 4.4 years (some were further in-between, but that's the average). Being a manager, having to separate someone is horrible when we have no control over it. Being a person on the receiving end is even more horrible. Jim F. continues to say that we need to improve our talent pool, which is code for "out with the old and in with the new." He seems to forget that he's been here for 15 years, he's not new, either, and he has been in positions of power the entire time!

Why are so many Chicken Littles constantly posting about layoff rumors? Layoffs are common for agency engineering and IT jobs but Ford salary layoffs happen rarely. Yes, there were a few hundred in the spring and there was SRD back in 2019. However, posters are chronically claiming insider knowledge of mass layoffs every few months, every year. I suppose if you constantly post, if a layoff does happen, you can pat yourself on the back for being the broken clock that is right twice a day.

Unless you have concrete source, don’t spread rumors.

Oh and I also heard from the grapevine that OP may/may not get the boot, just not sure when. But it’s for 100% certainty that it will be sometime in the future.

Where did you hear this? The same source that claimed June 16th was D day?

What do you people not get? LL4s are under NDAs, with threat of losing everything, for spilling. You are not going to get real information. Just rumors and innuendo.

Something is coming. When and how is not known.

excellent... it comes at the cost introducing an atmosphere of fear on who could be next. Maybe they want it this way? Fear will make you work harder and ask for less. That may be the desired change? Good for you, Ford! Show these bastrds where their spot is!

It's so that they don't have to report it as required under the WARN Act. Basically the WARN Act requires Michigan companies to report large layoffs or separations 60 days in advance. The threshold for the WARN Act is if they plan on laying off more than 500 employees (or 30% of their workforce). In Ford's case by doing smaller layoffs over several months, they avoid publicizing it and having to pay increase unemployment to the state. I previously worked at a supplier that was able to circumvent reporting by doing small layoffs and firings over time when they were winding down and closing their plant.

Maybe one round is voluntary, one round is involuntary, but I don't know what the third round would be?
