Almost everyday I hear that the job market is in a good place right now and that now is the time to leave. While that may be true the other side of the equation is that many folks are looking for a job in this industry and that companies are buried in job applications.
In that situation, with today’s economy and with the way companies operate, they tend to give younger folks the advantage, in the belief that they have more energy and that they will work for a lower salary. Can we dismiss the claim that the job market is hot for more experienced and older employees (40 plus years old)?

They sure do exist and no question there. The two that I'm entertaining are federal jobs with job announcement #s and both I've worked in the past. I had to submit my resume on usajobs.gov and have been referred to both positions. I should hear something soon but I'm not worried about it.
As for the others they are definitely real positions and three in retail. I'm done with retail... Thanks for your concern though and good luck to you as well.
Have you actually interviewed with the companies themselves..as opposed to the recruiters? The jobs you are entertaining do you have a solid offer from the company? Not to sound like Debbie Downer but there a lot of fake "recruiters".. ..many overseas who contact hundreds of people with public resumes. Sometimes they are commission based only so hoping they will find a needle in a haystack..sometimes they will ask you for a fee. Sometimes the job does not exist. I wish you the best but be careful
I'll be turning 50 this year and since I've switched my Indeed resume to public on May 11th, I've been contacted by recruiters from 7 companies. I didn't apply to them, they sought me out. Three I turned down due to distance, one because it's health-care and I have zero desire to work in that field, and one due to pay. But I'm entertaining the other two - one more than the other.
So the job outlook isn't bad at all. Not in my area anyway. Things look promising and hopefully I'll be employed someplace else soon as I have been applying to jobs also.
Can who dismiss? I do not totally understand the OP.
Who says companies are buried in applications? If that was true why would they still be looking for help?
Good paying is relative ..especially depends on where you live.(is reply from the OP?) It is important to know what YOU bring to an employer. Experience, attitude, etc. A lot of this board are whiny and negative..that is bound to show during interviews.
I know that it is very difficult to find a good paying position. I’ve been trying for quite a while.
The job market IS hot. I disagree on the age "thing". Many if not most employers prefer employees with maturity and experience. Are you speaking from your own searching? If you are having trouble finding a new position I would not blame it on age
