I worked for Sears for 25+ years and this sounds like the exact same thing. As far as I can tell Wall Street turned against BB&B followed by the media and it was downhill from there. Same thing happened to Sears. Of course there were many, many bad business decisions but all the negative press definitely drives down sales which accelerates the decline.
