Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

why GF is great

  • I've been promoted several times
  • My pay has increased more than twofold since I started
  • My manager is good and my team is supportive
  • I get lots of time off because of my seniority
  • Committed to providing opportunities to historically oppressed groups
  • Committed to operating in states that vote progressively

We keep discussing how terrible and shady HR is but I think we need to discuss 1st line, 2nd line and 3rd line mgrs and leadership as well.

They are so inept it’s embarrassing. Don’t get me wrong they are smart and nice people. They can run a science based project or experiment but when it comes to all the other elements of being a manager; they are simply terrible. Across the board at GLOBALFOUNDRIES is majority of science based people with no managing or business experience leading the way and floundering. I have been under the same leadership (2nd line) for almost 6-7 years and honestly we have accomplished nothing significant at all as a team in that time. Sure we hit little goals and project deadlines, but all over arching mega goals are never met ever. They just eventually fade out and are replaced by some new lofty goal.
I have also seen so many counter intuitive business decisions made its shocking. It’s almost like they go out of their way to make the wrong business choice.

I can go on and on but the mgt is just horrible at Globalfoundries. Sure there are one or two great mgrs, but they exception and that is why everyone sees and recognizes them as being great. Because they are so rare in the halls of Globalfoundries. They are unicorns at GF. So rare they might be myths.

If you think there will be layoffs and can’t financially make it until you get another job I’d just leave now and find another job rather than speculate on layoffs

Yes I am similar. What I learned from other Globalfoundries peers is at Globalfoundries you have to be the “squeaky wheel.” Make a little noise you want the promotion and highlight your achievements.

Anywhere else you don’t need to do this. A little self promotion certainly helps. But Globalfoundries and their work culture environment is the strangest one I have ever seen. We all know it’s extremely toxic, but it’s just so god damn odd how these like this work. Of course mgt, hr and leadership don’t see it that way but most of them have never worked at a “normal company” before.

I think myself in the top 10 most productive person in my module. My contributions are stellar and no one would question my promotion.

I think myself in the bottom 10 of how to sell myself. I have not been promoted but I never complain :-(

Lol you nailed it. @OP+1hrQSm4m showed their cards with the language and word choices.

@OP+1hrQSm4m come on. Be better. You clearly read this board. Take what you have read back to your teams and make some changes. Instead of fighting us, work with us. You can save GLOBALFOUNDRIES with some changes. At moment you guys and your current mentality are big part of the problem at GLOBALFOUNDRIES.

You can do this! Help us help you!

OP comes from the HR/Technical Vitality groups, evidenced by their statement of how they “work with oppressed groups of people.” Those of us that have worked at Global, long enough, know who you probably are, and we wouldn’t call what you do “work.” Saying you make double the salary and are Level 9+ (unlimited vacation) shows actually how shallow you are as an individual, when most of the FAB employees are suffering. Most people work to get promotions, not sucking up to high inner circles.

  1. I've been promoted several times
  • Very happy for you, I work hard but consistently passed over and told next year.
  1. My pay has increased more than twofold since I started
  • Very happy for you, I now drive Uber and Lyft to supplement my income due to rising costs of living and minimalists raises.
  1. My manager is good and my team is supportive
  • Very happy for you, I also have great team mates but my manager is the least productive and keeps getting promoted. We lost members due to his lack of management skills. He gets great survey reviews because we all fear retribution.
  1. I get lots of time off because of my seniority
  • Very happy for you. My manager demands we always take our laptops and phones on vacation and expects us to log in for morning daily meetings. My wife and children are demanding I find a new job so I can actually spend focused time with them.

@OP bu-----t post.

  1. 6 years no promotion
  2. 2800 dollars total raise in the past 5 year at level 5
  3. Jerk former manager use job to threaten people and force people on-call 24 hours. Always agains companies policy
  4. Useless HR only has ba--s to deal with the good techs and cannot say a single words to the manager.
  5. Bu-----t senior level and try to hide everything they know
  6. Bad training system that cause new hires cannot learn anything. A lot of people works here over two years don’t even know the basic FinFET process except PI.

@rgm Sometimes I think about how I was in the right place at the right time 11 years ago. I didn't win the lottery (it's relative, right?), but I have gotten ahead of a lot of my friends and peers. I've been given the opportunity to prove myself and GF has rewarded me. Although, to be fair they've needed prodding on occasion.
