Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Meetings

Does any other store do team manager meetings? My store consists of 5 manager whom all sit in the office for 2 hours. That is 10 hours that could be used on the sales floor or a cashier. The way hours are it just seems like the time could be used more productive.

We had a mgr at our store who got fired for sitting at their desk watching po-n. And it was a big BBBY. At least it was a productive use of time compared to meetings.

I was actually promoted from the bottom after 15 years here and let me tell you it's nothing but frustrating. You remember how well things used to work and try to piece it together now and it just falls apart before your eyes. I very much regret taking those keys. So yes promoting from within is the way it should be but it's so broken now you can't even do your job properly.

How in the world do you have 5 managers? We don't even have one. We have two supervisors and share a SM with another store in the district.

yes our Managers/ keyholders (4) sit upstairs for an hour. Leaving just the CS desk person only on the floor. They don't answer when back up is called. Key turns only. Will turn the key and walk back upstairs with people standing in line. People have walked out. employees in my store are dropping like flies! (including me.) My last day is next week after well over a decade and a half with this company. It's so sad. It use to be a great company. Bring in people from outside the company who have no idea what the he-l they are doing. And then wanting those of us who have been here to train them.
They have no experienced people in the pipeline to take on key positions.
After the past 8 years for firings. First Department Managers, then assistants, district and Regional. They have shot themselves in the Foot. There are no more standards, No more customer Service. All these new programs which would be great if hey had employees to work them. Word to the wise. People at the top. You need to invest in your people at the bottom, your Store personal, your foundation of this organization. They are the ones that are allowing everyone to take home a paycheck. With out them,
Everything is going to come crumbling down.
My prediction within 2 years !

No clue what they’re doing. Managers at my store have a weekly meeting for about 20 minutes to stay up to date and the rest of their shift they’re on the floor as coverage, cashiering, helping with receiving duties, being an ssl, working fulfillment. There’s not enough hours in budget or associates to sit around for hours and do nothing.

Conversion is a joke! Look at the purpose of it without the tools to do it. Meaning no merchandise (what the customer is looking for) No associates to try to help customers. Example 1 customer comes in buys a candy bar no other customer comes in that's 100% conversion you will look like a hero! On the other hand family of 4 come only 1 buys a bar 25% conversion! You suck your team sucks ! How it's looked at? Now you beat sales does anyone care ? But you are putting money in the bank. Make more sense? A blue print 400pgs or more really? So out of touch with real store issues. Good luck!

What are they planning? Corporate sends you a blueprint. Follow it . It’s a no brainer. The dm is just as lazy as the managers. They only care about conversion.

I'll try to type while laughing...planning what!? Obviously they aren't planning on wise time investment if there are four or five managers shut in an office while three associates remain in the entire store. But that does show they are on the same page doing nothing so I do agree on that. Employee performance? Five managers discussing a skeleton crew's performance. These reasons are to induce laughter and make light of the situation, right? Right!?

It’s the managers that hide in the office when there’s no other managers around that u have to worry about. They aren’t doing sh-t.

Those meetings are necessary believe it or not. It’s so the managers can be on the same page about what’s going on in the store, planning and discussing employee performance among other things.

I'm from a store that has 4 managers. B volume used to b e B+. Anywa y I'm one of the mgrs. We barely take time to check email because every day we have to hit th e ground running. I honestly think we have too many keys. We need more workers. Not to talk myself out of a job but it's true. We are put away fulfillment coverage ssl and more all at the same time. It's hard. I almost think my sm sees this but doesn't want to turn the sc--w that will get rid of at least one of us and open it up for more pt workers. She's a sm with a heart and knows we have been there a long time. She works her a-s off too in order to take care of whatever we couldn't. We have a few pt but not nearly enough to bring the sales back. Sorry. That got pretty rambly.

The store needs all those Managers to lock the doors and turn off the lights after Q2 earnings call on Wednesday, 6/29.

You must be in a very high-volume store with all those managers. How were none of them laid off two years ago? Most stores are run on so few associates now that they are all stressed and overwhelmed. I might mention these 2-hour meeting to the district manager the next time you see them----that's a lot of time to be off the floor.
