Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

No innovation worth mentioning

Apart from the fact that I think that there is almost no incentive for innovation here, I think the talents needed by every company that seeks to launch innovative things are no longer here. What would you say - when did Cisco stop being innovative?

The last truly innovative technology they drove in the industry was corporate VoIP. That followed their dominance of routing and their acquisition of ethernet switching companies to scale corporate networks.

It's been two decades of nothing since then.

I can attest to this. Cisco does not value innovation.

I designed, evangelized, developed, implemented and CI/CD’d an effort which saved the company at least 5-10 million dollars per year. As a reward for my efforts, management said I could expect a 15k raise in 8 months when then next review cycle kicked in.

Safe to say, I didn’t stick around to find out if they’d keep their word. I was offered about a 50% raise by a competitor. It’s sad because compensation aside, I liked working for Cisco.
