Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

I hoped things would be much better when the situation improved

I don’t worry about being cut anymore but I feel more underpaid than ever, as I do more work than ever. I feel a little naive that I believed things would get better for us here when oil prices start to rise. They were very quick to eliminate jobs due to oil crisis. Why aren't they so fast and improve working conditions when things get better?

They gave all the Houston service techs a 15% raise! You should be mad about that because most of them barley have a pulse and should not have a job!

Value and price are different, paying the market price which is driven by supply and demand does not necessarily mean shareholders get value for their gamble in return.
It is definitely a sellers market when it comes to labour costs, so wage increases in line with inflation are needed!
The alternative is watch share holder value deminish to the point of literally NO return!

Market Value of Labor - you pay only what you must in order to maximize shareholder value. Plenty of sniveling going on, but, you are still here, have not left, still working = Market Value. If enough leave to impact shareholder value, then Market Value of Labor increases, as does remuneration, benefits etc. So, like it and accept it, or don’t like it and leave, but, don’t snivel.

You answered your own question. You do more work than ever for the same money you always made. They see that… why would they give you more if they can get that work for less. Thats is why i left, it will never get better. Either ride that donkey til it dies or find another donkey. Its as simple as that.

You don't really need more money it shall only bring you more problems.
Just be thankful you work at such a good company with an excellent management team.

Yup, price per share is the big issue.
Price down, cant keep share holders happy and nothing good happens.
Unfortunately, the stuff thats been happening the last couple years, loss of bonus, double time, 401k.. even tho it did come back(401).
The rest wont, ever!.
With inflation high and a non existent cost of living raise from this company, you are making less. Ive been there 10 yrs and I know i make $4.69 less per hour in todays dollars. That doesnt include todays 8% inflation

Sorry buddy. You are naive. If you haven’t figured what the game is, you deserve being screwed over. But I empathise with you. It’s all about the share price.
