Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

2 weeks notice

I gave my 2 weeks notice today. My manager asked where I was going and I thought of no reason to lie so I told her to another insurance company. She then told me I am going to be terminated today and I cannot work the next 2 weeks. She told me this is Allstate's policy. So now, I am getting screwed out of a paycheck, screwing my co workers by not cleaning up my pending.
Be forewarned, if you get another job and it's for another insurance company, do NOT give 2 weeks notice, just resign the day before you start your new job.

The company doesn’t have any grounds to question you on where you’re going. Don’t volunteer it and don’t respond if asked. You’ll need to leave right away so just plan accordingly. It is sucks that you’re rushed and can’t say goodbye to anyone but that’s what the company wants.

The sad part is that they’re worried about some sort of competitive data or proprietary information being compromised. Which is absolutely ludicrous for many reasons. The bottom line is they are only hurting the workers who stay with the company.

Almost every company in America does this if you leave for a competitor. I had the same thing when I worked at a tech company and moved to a different big tech company

Depends on the department I guess. The one I was previously in didn't care - people left for other insurance companies left and right and were honest about it and were allowed to stay their two weeks.

Sometimes being let go right away can work out. I had applied to another company (not insurance, tech) and was in the background process, they had given me a rough idea of when I could start which was about 4 weeks out, I found out I had family that were coming in I didn't know about so I asked about taking some time off that would be about 2 weeks or so before my start date but my manager said "no" that they would be gone during that time and I was just finding out. A week later my background cleared, I asked if the planned start date was still on, they said if I could start earlier they would give me a small bonus, I said I can do that. I walked in the day before he was supposed to go on PTO and 2 days before my family was coming in and said I was "giving my 2 weeks as I was going to work at State Farm", I was out of there in about 2 hours. I got a bonus, nice job at a tech company, able to see my family, and from what the coworkers said really pi---d off the manager.

@1lxr+1hm2PqTE if you go to a bank you still get your 2 weeks, I have had several coworkers go to Bank of America recently and all were able to stay, banks are not a competitor to Insurance.

You’re entitled to unemployment in most states which Allstate ultimately ends up paying so I suggest filing even though it’s not much money. Decent business acumen is a thing of the past with them. At my current carrier they want employees closing files in those last two weeks and allow them to stay and work so that other employees don’t get work dumped on them. Allstate is d-mb enough to just terminate and leave co workers with a mess. They are destroying any and all morale or goodwill, or what little they had left. It’s a vile company. Good for you for moving on! :-)

I would tell them I’m going to a job with more dignity and satisfaction that involves joking a circus and cleaning up elephant sh-t.

The major sufferers will be customers who get even worse service from understaffed and stressed employees.
I pray that customers find these threads so they know to move to a cheaper and better competitor.
In fact, I may even put a link on their Facebook page….
Implode Allstate implode…

I gave two weeks notice. I was honest that I was going to a competitor. I was immediately let go. I knew I would be. However, I can live with myself. “When they go low, i go high.” I did the right thing.

If Allstate is terminating you, when you qualify for unemployment benefits?

Depending on what state you reside, but where I live:
immediate termination with no pay (or benefits) upon giving notice is completely illegal.
(maybe in TX or FL it's encouraged, but not here)

Allstate. Lie and you get to stay. Tell the truth and you are kicked out immediately. Yeah, that makes sense.

Uh yeah , everyone kind of knows not to say you’re going to a competitor Einstein. Live and learn. Don’t show this company any loyalty. They’ve bent us over a barrel the last 2-3 years. At least you’re leaving this cr-p ho-e

Why would you tell them where you’re hiding?

Had a similar situation in my office. Co worker gave 2 weeks notice and didnt tell his boss he was going to Geico. Then he started telling fellow co workers, word got out to boss and he was let go 2 days later. This company is a disgrace. The only one they end up hurting is those of us left to clean up the mess when someone leaves. By not allowing someone to work their 2 weeks, everything is transferred with loose ends, no direction, just a giant mess. But Glenn could care less, not his problem.

They will term you immediately instead of letting you serve out your two week notice if you say you are going to a bank or anything to do with finances as well.

I lied. I had to. I liked my boss, but I needed that 2 weeks pay.

Sorry that happened to you. Most companies are like that when you go to a competitor. I would never have said where I was going
