I can confirm first-hand the comments made by the other poster about transfers in HP. When I got WFR'd 3 years ago I had 60 calendar days to find another position in HP if I wanted to return to HP, otherwise (as stated in my WFR letter) by corporate policy I could not be rehired by HP after that, ever!
After my WFR date, I had former HP colleagues help get my resume and cover letter to hiring managers (they found the manager name internally from the req# I applied for online), and that's when I found out that I could not be rehired into a position that was below the level I was at before I got WFR'd. As I had been in a master level position when I was ousted from HP, it greatly limited my job options as there were very, very few positions available at that level or higher that I was qualified for. Effectively HP was squeezing me out, due to the expiring 60 day time window plus my greatly reduced job options due to my master-level position I had been at. This whole process, very frustrating and pressured as it was, showed me that the idea of the "HP family" as we always heard as employees was a GREAT BIG LIE as no "family" would dump out someone and literally shove ther door closed behind him.
I ended up finding no HP position after 60 days. But I will say that I found a significantly better job a few months later, one that is in a growing company with generous annual pay raises and huge bonuses, but most importantly it is just a better place to work than HP. So if you get WFR'd, be assured that there are much better jobs out there than trying to stay with HP.
