Still don’t care about Ford. It’s an indicator, not a comparison. There are a lot of layoffs and hiring freezes happening. GM knows they can’t get rid of certain people until they’ve fulfilled their rolls in this big EV push. They also can’t survive if they pay for employees they can’t afford. It’s a delicate balancing act where the employee’s welfare will not be taken into consideration.
Never say never, but I would be surprised. The main reason being that we cut much deeper into the workforce than Ford did in 2018. Ford’s overall workforce is still significantly larger than GM’s.
Also, companies that cut deep at the beginning of the pandemic, like airlines, are now hurting to staff up.
Farley strikes me as a bit of an egotistical jack@a$$ who likes to shoot from the hip. I don’t think our top leaders are enlightened beings, but they do seem to be a lot more measured in their decisions and announcements than Farley who says things like Ford doesn’t have the right employees in place. That’s just a horrible, demoralizing thing for a CEO to say about his own workers. That’s why the rumors are swirling like crazy over in Dearborn.
Probably they will just reduced everyone's salary by 20% or more. Just like they did during the pandemic to avoid this from happening.
Yeah, they’ll wait until the last minute with no regard to the negative effects it will have on employees. Tesla is laying people off into a market with high demand for employees. How lucky for them to get another job while there are still jobs to get.
