Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Does Intel have a layoff season?

My former company laid people off once a year, nearly always in August, so we knew in advance what and when to expect it. Does Intel have something similar or is it always a different time? I've joined nearly a year ago and I'm yet to see any layoffs take place, that's why I'm asking.

Intel doesn't do big layoffs anymore. It gets too much bad press. Now it's a lot of small, "unrelated" "reorgs" announced at different times to avoid a big splash.

Intel has done some large layoffs (SET Fall 2007, ACT Spring 2016) when economists and internal business analysts thought the then-current business cycle was a bit old and ready to turn against Intel. And it’s true that some reductions in force have had their end date timed to generate improved profit numbers before year end. I think they may do another layoff when management sees early indications that the impending stagflation crash will impact Intel sooner rather than later (or not at all).

Hang onto your hats and have that resume and LinkedIn profile updated.

Intel poses an existential threat. Should newhires be concerned, and start preparing their resume.

Are fresh out of college grade 7 or grade 8? I’m way low balled then.

It will be interesting the approach they take. All these grade 7s and 8s fresh out of college who absolutely have no idea wtf they are doing is probably the people they will keep!

They usually want you off the books by the end of the year or June 30. So that’s why it’s spring and fall.

Let me guess, you’re asking yourself “self, i’m not really doing anything.. all my projects are canceled and fail, surely there is a layoff coming?” You are at intel, that’s how things work. Kiss bu-t and backstab and you don’t have to work… desire to actually accomplish something meaningful? Start with your resume.

No regular schedule but as the other poster said, it’s often in Spring or Fall

It’s not a regular thing, it happens (effectively) randomly. Spring and fall are probably the most frequent times, but not by much.
