Will launching a lot of apparel help?

My opinion is that clothes will be the last thing on people's minds as we head into a recession in the near future.

Probably not the buyer. Probably a hitch at the distribution center.

Some buyer needs to lose their job. We just got two pallets full of the same boys shorts in two colors. Why would someone think that a small store in a small community will be able to sell two pallets of the same kind of shorts? Our community might have a few thousand people and we have four Walmarts within 30 minutes of us. So the chances of us selling these shorts are pretty small, especially since it is the end of summer and back to school is starting. This is the type of thing that will bring Walmart down.

It won’t help. If people have the choice they don’t want to be seen in Walmart apparel.

I agree, too. When the pocket books of 300+ million US consumers get pinched in the next several weeks and months, they will turn to Walmart. If you need to blame someone, you don’t need to go any further than ol’ sleepy joe.

Agree! Consumers will rely on Walmart for absolute necessary spending.

That’s probably the best explanation I’ve ever read on here. And probably spot on.

You might be right, but I think the idea here is that as the recession takes hold for back to school and especially in Q3, Walmart will be able to be the apparel low cost leader, so instead of heading to the Gap, Old Navy or BR, you’ll see more shoppers with apparel in the carts, and that will drive other in store buying, such as groceries, as well. The average cart size will increase as inflation and then recession bites more and more into peoples pockets.
