Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Manager's are fed up

Alot of them wanting to go back to their craft because they can't handle the stress. Truthfully they should find and get another job. If they can't handle it now, what makes them think they'll be able to handle being back in tools.

Managers don’t do anything that’s why they should be fired

I have never seen any manager get blamed for something that happened 200 miles from them, and I was there for 27 years! I never went into management, nor did I want just because of how management was treated. How much work do you think managers actually do? I saw many managers sleeping in their offices, playing games on the phones, taking 30 min. smoke breaks, shooting the breeze, sneaking around and spying on workers. I never heard anyone say they were an expert in what they do, but what are their actual job duties? Again, I was there for 27 years and never knew what they actually did or were supposed to do. If you know what their job duties are, then please let the rest of us know. So until you actually know what they do, then you shouldn't insist others to shut up or assume that they don't know what they're talking about. Let the down voting begin!

What could possibly be worse than being a rr manager nowadays ? Between a rock & a hard place. They own you. Your vacation you planned ? Cancelled. Your rest days ? We are having a mandatory meeting then. Company is coming…..go and remove or hide all the hazards. 55-60 hours per week. Oh, and you don’t really understand how to do a job….other than reading it verbatim and faking it.

It’s laughable all the comments from people about managers when you have never done that job. You only have to worry about yourself at work while managers are blamed with things that happen 200 miles from them which they have no control over. Until you do someone else’s job you shouldn’t talk like you are an expert in what they do.

If you can’t handle being a UP manager today.. Then you can’t handle anything.. You don’t do anything

I thought the managers lying ten years ago was bad. Kept saying “yes” on paper and doing other things in the field. It worked for a awhile, but the divide between what was really happening in the field and “what the numbers say” kept getting bigger and bigger. I remember the first managers who smiled and lied the most, they started getting promoted fast. The ones who hesitated, tried to plead for more employees, the honest ones, they either left or went back to their craft.
