Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Severance question

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm not sure where else to ask. Do employees who have been here for less than a year receive any kind of a severance? I know recent hires are often sacrificed during layoffs to make them seem more diverse age-wise, which is a sh---y thing to do to people who probably passed on other offers (I know I did) to join. Is any kind of compensation provided when they're shown the door?

Agree with others. You would get the same severance as someone here for 40 years.

That said, I've not seen them get rid of new hires wholesale like that. The layoffs generally target older (ie more expensive) workers. They do this regularly and consistently and it's quite a brutal and vicious act.

RA was announced soon after I joined and was told a lifetime IBM employee that new joiners are safe for an year.

You need to make it past your probationary period. It's different for different bands. For Summits its 2 years. You maybe on the hook to reimburse any relocation money too. Check with your HR rep
