Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Where IBM is heading

https://www.fool.com/investing/2022/06/10/everyone-talking-about-stock-good-long-term-ibm/

This nets out the current picture pretty nicely. By buying Redhat, IBM bought their way into a new business model that feeds the machine. (1 dollar of platform spend translates to 3-5 dollars of SW spend and 6-8 of consulting/services) There are a couple of unanswered questions

  1. Why did IBM hold onto Kyndryl for so long It’s past performance and it’s current performance show it’s a terrible business model as it currently sits and IBM wasted billions on its continued investment.
  1. What do you do with the remaining legacy businesses?
  1. Can IBM execute this plan quickly enough given the competition

You heard it here first: IBM will be partnering with China to contact alien civilizations. All current resources will be diverted. AK will be announcing next week.

This dysfunctional company cannot survive much longer. I get it five years until it is a teeny tiny company that ultimately will go the way the dinosaurs . And I’m no boomer. Get out now.

The future is continued divestitures so they can keep telling Wall St "on a pro forma basis netting out the effect of acquisitions and divestitures we grew a little bit" meanwhile total revenue continues to decline year after year after year.

It's a clogged and slow one, so no swirl But inevitably (within the next 10 years) down the drain There will most likely be only 1 additional CEO Great job by the Executives and BoD ki----g 100 years of value in less than 20 years You should be proud of yourselves and less of your wealth Curses come with that blood money So well deserved

Warren Buffett says Berkshire Hathaway has sold completely out of IBM - MAY 4 2018

That was 4 years ago. IBM is dying a slow painful death. It will join Kodak, Nortel, Blockbuster, etc, in the graveyard.

IBM is already in all of F1000. RH is in most of them. Not driving those kind of multiples at existing clients. Clients looking to deploy K8s in the ACTUAL cloud are turning to EKS/AKS/GKE not Open Shift. Target audience for Open Shift is Z clients looking to modernize their on-prem mainframe environment. Small and shrinking market.

I expect you are correct The average Redhat buyer isn’t a fortune 1000 customer. IBM bought Redhat to deploy it and its strategy to their fortune 1000 customers Everyone else is an afterthought that IBM will let the channel take

Average RH buyer is NOT buying 3-5X in SW and 6-8X in Services. Not even close.
