I am afraid of the worst possible scenario, which is to be laid off and not be able to find a new opportunity for long after that. I have already started looking for other options. Some assure me that it will not be so difficult to find something better. I don't know... Is there a reason to be overly concerned? How do you feel about the job market?

Take valuable lessons.
Never work for big corporates (avoid their gimmick interviews) where people at the top earn big on salary and bonuses at the expense of the efforts of lower levels. These people should be left alone and never given an opportunity to make decisions that put employees into anxiety.
Find a place where your contribution is recognized and you have peace of mind with sufficient money.
Its all in the power of your hands!!
@1osj Sorry to hear that. It seems many smaller stealth cuts are the new F way, instead of periodic large well publicized cuts. The serial smaller stealth cuts feel less humane in a way.
A purchased Service employee got layoffs on Friday evening. They worked in IT.
If you do get some kind of severance that really helps. You should ALWAYS have your resume updated and should be keeping in touch with others you know in the industry. I have worked for suppliers my entire career and learned that the hard way. From what I gather from here, Ford workers are stressed to the max, so getting let go may be a blessing in disguise.
GM here. I went through this in 2019 and understand the anxiety and uncertainty. I can tell you that every person that I knew who got laid off in our purge found good jobs in the auto industry within 3 months…some of them making significantly more money. Having extensive experience at a big OEM is still a valuable commodity in this town.
I agree the job market is pretty good now, you should be fine. If you leave on your own you will always wonder maybe I would not have been laid off if I had stayed. This alone would make me want to stay unless I was laid off, only then would I look at other opportunities.
Leaving on your own doesn't get you severance, nor does it count against the headcount reduction quota.
The job market is good. You should be fine.
