Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Uh-oh! Is anyone able to see the SIRP policy today?

Checked on life@ford to confirm the severance details for involuntary separations. Today there's no sign of the policy. You know, SIRP - the one that says 9 months severance pay for 20+ years of service. Curious if anyone else is able to find it.

People it's still very early yet in the whole lawsuit arena i.e April terminations. Just because there haven't been any filed yet doesn't mean there won't be. The statute of limitations is far from up on this.

Or they just want to cut all ties with Ford and move on with their life. Good riddance

@lmxw. There aren't lawsuits from the April action because older people let go were satisfied with the severance - obviously. That is the point. What you can prove in court is not the issue. It is a question of what do you have to lose. If the company wants to eliminate health and pension cost and disproportionately targets older people, they either meet their objectives or they don't. Proving that objective existed is not difficult.

@1omz+1hX9abSa Exactly IBM started doing this stuff in earnest long before Ford did.
Things didn’t hit a critical mass until Propublica did an expose on IBM age discrimination in 2019. In 2020 the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Confirmed a Pattern of Age Discrimination at IBM and essentially told them to clean their act up. Nothing has really changed, some IBM execs were “retired” and more lawsuits continue to be filed against IBM. IBM does settle them at a more rapid pace than before and the quantity of lawsuits has increased.

And how exactly are you going to "prove" that in court ? You can't just use what happen in during the SRD to prove what is going to happen this year. Don't believe me, ok then where are the lawsuits from the 350+ folks who were let go in April ? Unless you are banking you're hopes on the BOD writing new emails documenting their plans again. If that is your future strategy to sue in my opinion it's a very poor one...

I took the package at the end of 2020 and it was the best thing I ever did. I miss some of the people I worked with but surely don't miss the constant stress of having to survive the layoffs. If you are overly stressed about the annual layoffs at Ford, take the package now and preserve your health.

GM froze salaried pensions in 2007.

"Effective Jan. 1, 2007, GM will freeze the accrued pension benefits for about 42,000 U.S. salaried employees and put them into new plans, a tactic many large companies are using to trim soaring pension costs. The change won't affect retirees or workers represented by the UAW. Salaried employees hired on or after Jan."

THe GRP is changing in the form of much higher rates. If losing 20-30% YOY doesn't get people off of the fence, nothing will.

The severance is peanuts to the amount in the pension fund. I don’t even know what pile they get it from. It might be a combination of payroll and pension. Think about the 30k employee in NA. Probably 20-30% are Model E and ther are 70-80% are Ford Blue. You might be able to thrift some ICE folks but we are not talking big numbers. And only 10-12k are in the GRP across.

The only way to get the most volunteers is to change the GRP on Jan 1 and scare them all into retirement. GM converted their plan a few years ago.

@jqu. No, we can't sue because the severance packages are changed. We can sue because the company has a well established pattern of age discrimination. It is just a question of whether or not packages are sufficient to prevent those lawsuits.

We get some absurd posts. That HR will base layoffs on who visited SIRP site is one of them.

You all do know that IT and HR monitor your web activity, both internal and external. They know which employees visited the SIRP documents this week. Don't be surprised if HR uses the logs to determine layoff candidates.

Farley's bonus must remain intact regardless who else feels the pain.

Maybe this will finally be the wake up call for all the folks not making any plans other than just waiting around for a package to be offered b4 preparing to take control of their own options. Folks continue to proclaim on this site non stop about how they can’t wait to get their 9months. No matter how many times we look and re-looked at the severance package previously it has also stated that it was always subject to change at the company’s discretion. And No you are not going to be able to sue them because they decided to make changes….

My guess is they will be shavings some months off of the severance packages. Each iteration becomes less attractive.

My guess is that they will make it match the voluntary offers of 6 month severance.

The severance is simply a bribe to prevent lawsuits. If the severance is lowered, the number of lawsuits will go up.

When I did see it earlier this week it had a max of 9 months severance. They could be just updating the calendar year dates.
