For as many people I know who are worried about the coming cuts I know those who are excited about it. There is a whole bunch of people who can't wait to get out and if given a chance to volunteer they will. And if enough people volunteer, there'll be no need to cut that many of those of us who want to stay. As long as they offer a volunteer option first, I think this will turn out relatively okay.

It will be very Bad. I know ...
Remember last time they offered voluntary packages, but it was basically equal to the involuntary 3 months pay, so there wasn't any actual incentive to take it
Do voluntary packages really reduce the involuntary separations? During SRD we were told that our organization should be safe from involuntary separations because so many took voluntary that they were worried about brain drain and possibly needing to replace some of them. On involuntary separation day our organization took a huge hit although it was mostly older employees approaching a pension milestone and well respected high performers who likely had large salaries because of past performance. (Yeah, what kind of dimwit thinks the company could save money by getting rid of their high performers!) There were a couple of slackers and younger employees thrown in there and a person from each demographic to “prove” they weren’t targeting older people with a pension.
It’s rarely about a specific number and depends on what they’re after. Do they want to clear out poor performers, older workers, higher earners, etc…? It’s hard to predict as each clear out appears to target a different “type”.
If no voluntary package, then people can just wait around for involuntary. Maybe work a few more years. Offering voluntary packages could make this go smoothly. It would allow departments to plan. I guess HR would rather deal with the lawsuits that are sure to come.
I heard from an LL4 that there will be packages this year!! So many conflicting messages.
If they offered voluntaries, I think they'd be surprised at how many would take it.
Anyone still just waiting around for a voluntary package at this stage is being illogical and just plain silly. All one has to do is to simply observe the track record from Ford on voluntary packages offered from 2017 to 2021 to clearly see how they have increasing became LESS and LESS lucrative for those who took the offer. To now in this year when Ford as a business model is now carved up into multiple slices, skyrocketing warranty costs, huge inventory shortages and a looming nationwide recession, however now some folks expect Ford to offer a nice voluntary package ?? (never mind the fact that an 500+ involuntary action has already occurred a few months ago)
Voluntary packages are DONE!
I don't think it will go down that way... If there were no packages and the LL6, LL5 and LL4 know this they would also be stepping away. There are a lot of 30yr folks in the management rolls to that are waiting for a package. Once that option is gone these folks will hit the road to avoid the lump sum decrease come Jan1.
Usually there is 6-9 months of support for job searching and usually some severance payout to avoid legal backlash.
I was told by someone in the know that this one IS going to be very ugly.
An LL4 told our team yesterday that voluntary packages will not be coming. S/he advised that folks who are looking to retire should consult their financial planners ASAP. Beyond that s/he said that they were in the dark about what is coming down the pike.
Unbelievable. Those are probably many of the same people who have sat the fence year after year for no other reason than waiting for some climactic moment such this to wish, hope, and pray they get a voluntary and or get tapped on the shoulder. Could have gone not that long with a voluntary but proved not to be the case. Disgusting.
