Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

Why can't we have good managers?

Since I started at AIG seven years ago I've had one good manager. The guy knew what he was doing, he was supportive and helpful, and he always led by example. All the others were/are lazy, have no idea what they're doing, and they want us to do their jobs for them while they are schmoozing with the higher-ups. It's ki----g morale and it's ki----g productivity. I guess that's what happens when they promote people for all the wrong reasons.

They make people into managers that cannot do the actual job but they have not done enough to be fired. This is why we have bad managers. I had several managers and team leads are the laziest unethical people you want to meet.

I worked in a service center on the east coast and there was a manager who literally acted like a spy. She would turn people in if they were on their computers too long or walked away from them. She would report to the AVP who acted like a dictator. The AVP was rude to staff in the claims department and the other supportive services to AIG. The manager is now at GB and hopefully they catch on to her and she will get her karma. She's very destructive and causes a lot of problems and issues. Hopefully the AVP gets her karma too.

your current managers were less than average employees - 7 years ago. All the good people left for better opportunities and what Aig was left with is less than average employees who stayed and received a promotion to management. The writing is on the wall and the ship is still sinking-AIG IS SHRINKING TO SELL OFF G.I. and they will sell it, the second they have the opportunity. Leave while you have a chance!

I have younger employees ask often “what is the direction off the company?” I respond by saying to not think about that, think about their career path and whether they believe they will reach their goals at AIG. Some have voted with their feet, others are sticking it out for various reasons.
But culture starts at the top. Self centered and narcissistic aren’t attributes I consider worthy of a true leader. But the HQ is full of them or their toadies that run around making id--tic requests that reflect their lack of knowledge or intellectual depth.

AIG wants "yes" managers not "good"managers. I'll just leave it at that.

Why should we care anymore? Just slog through the daily mind numb until the next job presents itself. Looking and ready to go....good or bad boss makes no difference at this point.

Because the vast majority of the good employees - smart, motivated, hard-working, honest employees - have already left or are preparing to leave AIG. There is nothing possitive left at AIG anymore. It’s some pretty dark business taking place in AIG Land right now with Dr. Evil PZ at the helm.

Is it any better on the L&R / Corebridge side of the house?

We need to have a restructuring at top of the house like at PZ level and then trickle down to other level of management. Favoritism & promote within the circle are embrace even at business unit/department level. Good & smart people are all left or plan to leave. I’m thanking God for opportunity and I’ll leave this place in 2 weeks.

If you are a good employee, manager or otherwise, you have already left or are trying to leave AIG. If you work at AIG and you are content with your job you are for the most part either unskilled, unmotivated or unlikeable. No quality employees that I know or have known are happy at AIG, but if you thrive on mediocrity, then you fit in great.
