Thread regarding VMware layoffs

1st year after acquisition (benefits etc)

I recall hearing that benefits might not change the first year. Can someone confirm if that happens for CA, brocade or Symantec employees?

I’m wondering if the nice Epic2 days off will at least continue for part of 2023.

Also if those didn’t change, what did change the first year besides the wave after wave of layoffs and coming to the office ?

Broadcom benefits were better actually than CA, of course CA was a glue factory so not so much a fair comparison.

Broadcom benefits are solid, not great but very solid.

Broadcom studied the products and software/services that VMWare offers for a year before making the deal. Don't you think by now, Broadcom knows exactly which projects/people to cut after the first week of merger is complete. Look out for the WARN notice in your state. They need to notify the state at least 60 days in advance. It's different state by state and if covid emergency is still in place (then it won't need to give 60 day notice). However, you can go to court for extension of unemployment if your job is getting outsourced. https://www.doleta.gov/TradeAct/petitioners/taa_search_form.cfm

Broadcom matches your contribution dollar-for-dollar on the first 6% of your salary. So for me, it was more generous.

what is a generous 401k? VMware's is $9k match. Is it better than that?

The Symantec deal also closed in November and we changed all benefits to Broadcom's at close.

Assuming you are in the USA, benefits will change based on when the deal closes. CA closed in November, so people moved to Broadcom benefits effective January 1st.

All other policies will revert to Broadcom policies. I seem to recall that Martin Luther King Day wasn’t a holiday for them (this may have changed).

401K is generous. Vacation is same as ours. All other benefits are bare minimum.
