There is a trend in this company where the young, white men are laying off the older women over 40. The recently wiped out an entire department of older women and the severance was pitiful

Let’s be real. We are all potentially next to be canned. This is a business, not a charity, publicly traded, with a mandate to make $$$ for its owners (shareholders). While some may not like this, layoffs, churn, profit, CAR processes, SDLC, processes, offshoring, automating, “ synergy hunting”, going agile and lean, are all just techniques to maximize the $$.
“Think” of upper management like a hungry shark - a very hungry shark that is NEVER full - and think of employees as small fish, delicious fish, that sharks grow large after eating. If we take that view, perhaps we won’t be surprised when we are banished and our families suffer. Never, ever forget this.
It’s the way of the world and if you don’t like it leave. Many have already, many are doing great - better than at CHC - so feel empowered over your own lives. TINA. (There is no alternative).

Middle management discriminates against older workers that are female in the hiring process as well. They've been doing this in a sly way over the years to avoid the repercussions. When we get a well qualified older woman that passes the first couple of interviews and gets our approval then management starts jerking them around until they either give up or we get a male candidate that is then hired super quick with no strings attached. In most cases, it's a less qualified male candidate. I agree with the other comment that they only want recent grads for their silicon valley bro culture. We had someone report the last instance to the ethics line and of course it was blown off with the typical corporate CYA approach of gaslighting us. They should lose their government contracts for this behavior.
This is an industry that values recent grads over older experienced engineers. They expect older workers to pivot into leadership positions. The newer grads are also cheaper.
It will be the best thing that happens to you to leave that pile of %#@$ company. I gave 15 years and was devastated when I got word and even though it was peak of covid it was honestly the best thing to happen to me and my family!
I'm sure we are next. There's really no incentive to go above and beyond anymore. We're all in the fryer as jobs are being offshored daily. 14 years of service, it's a shame. It was a great company before the last merger. I'm sure the next all hands will be a joy.
Well this is not accurate. The number one thing that HR does is look at the mix of Gender, Race and Age on layoffs. Your department may have had a large group of women over 40 on the list, but rest assured other groups had most men kicked to the curb.
I have been on 3-4 calls per year since joining CHC to tell us they are reducing staff. Consistently every year. Seems that is what they do best. Then send us a survey asking us our 'feelings' - you keep destroying employee, departments and families with layoffs. Can someone take the wheel that knows how to run an organization for growth, empowerment and trust. Employees as commodities is not working.
