Ford Motor Co. is planning to cut several thousand white-collar workers as it looks to trim costs to position the company for a long-range transition to electric vehicles, according to people familiar with the matter.

The auto maker in coming weeks is expected to disclose plans to eliminate more than 4,000 jobs, the people said. The cuts would mostly come from the Dearborn, Mich.-based auto maker’s North American salaried ranks and aren’t expected to include factory workers, the people said.

I have been trying to tell you it will be white collars, all salary grades, even Team Leaders are scared.

Doesn't matter if it's 4000, 8000, or whatever thousand.... They need to hit a $3B save by 2026 and we're not even 1/3 of the way there.

So $2B more to go before we hit this magic 3B bogie, which doesn't bode well for the lower level salaried ranks going forward. Much more of this from where it came from, kiddies.

8,000. 4,000. Does it really matter if the job they eliminate is your (my) job.

Wonder if management was surprised at the teams reaction and HR/PR is trying to soften the words (not actions).

The 8000 figure is global. Maybe 4000 is Michigan local

4000 is going to be first round. Farley said there will be rounds of layoffs. “Up to 8,000 total,” means yea, 7999.

I wonder if the 4000 is the number of salaried workers, and the additional 4000 are agency/PO.

So more than 4000 to "upto 8000"

So we have a ball park number on people being let go.
