Now that Tom Krause is gone, Hock Tan said VMware will report directly to him, but he will need help. Unlikely Raghu stays, he takes his $50M and runs for the hills. Who will run the combined VMware+Symantec+CA? It appears Sumit is actively campaigning for the job. Here he is talking SmartNICs, kissing up to Hock before the deal is even done!

Prepare for a lot of kissing the ring of Hock the Godfather, the next few months, by all political VMware execs who want to earn his favor. Only to be followed by, whoever is given the job will be granted their first brutal assignment - layoff 70% of VMware employees and earn their wrath in the process. Feels like Godfather movie Part 4.

Sumit - there aren't many execs I hate more. I hated the day he was in our first staff meeting where he said that he had no clue about VMware but Pat hired him anyway. I thought 'WTF are you doing here then' - and it went downhill from there.

Working for CSX myself I find him annoying. In fact, I don't think he still know WTF he is doing.

God help you guys if he stays execs ('you' because I myself are leaving end of week).

Never in the history of Broadcom acquisitions has a member of the executive team been offered a role. Never once. Do you really think any of our executives would rather give up $10M plus to work for Broadcom? Not going to happen.

Best choice would be Zane, Hock likes CFOs. But, he's too nice a guy to fire 80% of VMware employees, so he'll probably take his CIC and exit

Sumit and JP oversaw the decline of VMware last year, and the worst quarter ever, in Q1. They should both be shown the door and take their CIC millions. Also, Sumit is neither technical nor finance savvy.

Not as far fetching as it may seem and plenty sound bites to suggest the play is being made.

Only viable option is Zane - if he’d got the CEO gig permanently we wouldn’t be dealing with this sh-t show now. But I’d say he’ll have multiple reasons for not wanting to touch it with a barge pole - so sadly no chance we’ll end up being that lucky.

My money is it will be someone from Symantec or CA that is already “trained” in the way Hock likes to operate. For those of us that remain with Broadcom, this could be the best thing to come out of the acquisition. Reporting up to a non-VM person!

A lawyer or a finance person, but it will be an Underrepresented Minority, so that makes it all cool.
