Retention possible? Or is it just time to leave?

It has been a extraordinary week. I am one of the few people to survive. I feel very bad for people being let go. For myself and others that are staying, I am starting too feel people that survive this is just a temporary reprieve before the next announcement. I asked about retention for people that are staying and answers I got back from higher level was met with complete silence or never going to happen comments. Do anyone have insight into retention policy. Or is it time to leave?

Same here. I'm out. Several co-workers are also leaving. Enough of being in fear all the time. Is this company run so bad that they constantly are doing RIFs? I guess the answer is a resounding yes. I'm out.

Thanks for the advice. My emotions are still raw. I have a good team, now it’s all gone. It’s time for me to move on and look elsewhere. I understand it’s a business decision, but still hurts personal.

Prior poster is on target with the comment that this is an emotional blow to both those going and those "staying". I was in a similar position years ago. To this day, my opinion is that there was more PTSD for the few "survivors" that kept their jobs. We lost 2/3s of the staff with those remaining left holding the bag. Tremendous workload and stress. While my friends left with a years severance, I left a year later with nothing.

Unless you love your current role or they offer a large retention bonus (50%+} leave your options open and evaluate other opportunities.

Leave! I have been going through this for 12 years.....it never ends. Looking hard myself. Sick of waiting for the other shoe to drop. I'm out.

Are you asking about a retention bonus or guarantee the job will remain long term?

If a retention bonus I don't think there is a standard policy to provide one.

This could vary depending on the program or department or key person but I'd wager it is very limited. Probably more so to high level people with contracts or very specific and rare high risk situations.

I've seen so many people with critical knowledge released with no notice or transition it is hard for me to imagine many situations where they would offer retention pay.

Whether you stay or go depends on your personal situation.

How long do you plan to work? Do you see career growth opportunities in the roles that remain? Can you learn something or gain experience during the process that makes you more marketable.

This is a emotional blow to those staying and going. Take a couple of weeks to absorb the news then start evaluating options.
