Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

Trying to make it to retirement

I don't like the whole situation at all. I am an older worker who is afraid of getting cut before the retirement. I am no longer marketable because of my age.

I'm in a dilemma whether to hurl myself onto the job market or take a risk and try to make it to retirement? What do you think, how close to retirement is it still a bad idea to look for a job change?

Just stay and ride it out. There are jobs out here. You’d be surprised lots hire old people now days it’s not the same job market it was 20 or even 5 years ago.

I can only hope this is a lesson to the young people just joining AIG. This company is no longer a viable option for career growth. At best it is a short term learn and leave scenario. Do not for one second believe you have a future here.

Yes, I am talking to you interns, class of 2022. Learn and leave. Or just leave whatever, just don't stay here.

Please adjust your attitude, you state you are old! WRONG. you need to polish your resume, if that is too much of a task, farm it out. If you want a 6 figure income, try ladders.com (but it is not FREE). You get what you pay for in life.
Reach out to all your associates, there are jobs out there for people who can get up off their ar-e.

Literally given decades to this company, always worked extra hours, above and beyond year end year out. End of the day, means nothing to these people.

I love capitalism, but this is the ugly side. Hundreds sacrificed so a few execs can make their millions.

Take your money and run cowards. You are not leaders. You are modern day crooks. Losers. Young people take note, get out.

What do you have to lose if you get out there looking in the job market? What’s the worst thing that could happen?

Old guy with duplicate posts.....priceless!
FYI. I'm old as well! :)

I'm staying until they kick me out. I have been here 20 years as well. I have made adjustments in my life to be able to survive a layoff. If you are over extended financially, fix that right now. I can get any crud job and make it to 65. Then medicare kicks in.

I hear you friend. This is all I have known for 20 years. I don’t know what to do.

This group is heartless so I know my days are numbered.
