Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Fidelity is sliding into mediocrity

Why does it even bother me that Fido is becoming an increasingly mediocre place? Maybe because I used to really like working here. What do you think is the current ratio between competent, capable employees and those who do not know how to do their job at all? ? ? 1:5? 1:10? It's sad!

It’s easy for mediocrity to hide in plain sight in an organization as large as Fidelity and that is a large part of why I recently left for a much smaller firm. It became increasingly hard and frustrating to carry the burden for a bunch of people stuck in their way of thinking, without a clever or original thought. No regrets.

Well, there’s nothing better than a fa-t. Except kids falling off bikes, maybe.

Pace over perfection has been taken way to far. I gave my blood, sweat and tears for this company and I should not have. I got to emotionally involved and it made me overly defensive and turned me into an a$$ho-e. I'll be eligible for the next VBO and I'm taking it. I'm tired of picking up for mediocre employees. There are only a few good employees in each group and they are all tired of holding everything together.

Abby’s dad didn’t want her to take over. He tried to send her off to run the family foundation instead. He probably wasn’t impressed with her sh---y stock picking career or her uninspired management of several BUs. Only when she tried to overthrow him and then threatened to leave did her emotional manipulations win and she got the job.

She’s not incompetent, but she’s not exactly a great one either. You need to be blindingly brilliant to run a company this big especially at a time of unprecedented change. I get the sense Abby is a high work ethic administrator of existing and constant systems type but not a natural at innovation, although it does seem like she’s trying a lot to change that.

I don’t think we’ll send an end to this culture of incompetence until at the very top we get someone different, or if Abby becomes willing to listen to those who demand excellence rather than honey-tongued sycophantic types.
